Article in todays R/Post about the bald one refusing to honour the terms of contracts of former  t*te employees who are set to lose their jobs when bald fred close their call centre in Wigan, apparently he is refusing to pay them under the TUPE agreement for redundancy, Some are set to lose between £20,000 and £30,000. A truly dispicable man, if this is true.

PENINSULA BUSINESS SERVICES was set up in 1983 by Betfred founders Peter and Fred Done after a lack of legal support left them having to pay out more than £11,000 following an employment tribunal.

Today it is the UK’s largest employment law and health-and-safety consultancy, and advises more than 26,000 clients.

Fred, obnoxious though he is, is not stupid so what's his reasoning for withholding redundancy money if it's legally due?

Costs involved in defending will be considerable so he'd only go down the route of defending if he thought he'd win.

Don't get it unless there is more to the story.

What a vile creature.

He is muti millionaire, and cannot be far off a billionaire.

Yet trying to screw his employees.

If he pays out will it affect his standard of living? Not in the slightest.

Whatever happened to capitalists who still had a social conscience?

A century ago, the Rowntree's factory was paying all its staff in York a higher-than-market wage. It wasn’t called a Living Wage then. Instead it was described as “productivity wages”.

"The Rowntrees were concerned that their employees had enough money to live on, but the decision to pay well was as much about business as it was about social responsibility.

Joseph Rowntree and son Seebohm Rowntree were not socialists. They were good capitalists who valued their commercial success. They believed that with that success came social responsibilities, because successful industry and good employment practices were both central in developing a good society for everyone.

In 1914, Seebohm Rowntree said: “Employers… must be compelled to abandon the false economy of low wages, and the nation need not distrust movements which strengthen the economic position of the workers.”

Bald Fred should take a leaf out of the Rowntree's book and pair fair and honest wages. Instead when his staff cannot afford to live he tries and takes more money of them in interest rates for loans.

Maleuk01, as I'm sure you know, the way business works these days is that companies will shaft their customers and employees in any way they can, and then use their PR frauds to try to turn their commercial cynicism into something else.

Stansted airport recently started charging people £2 to drop passengers off. Why are they doing it, according to their PR people - because they care about the environment, and want people to use public transport.

A well known chocolate manufacturer recently reduced the size of their confectionary while still charging the same price for it. Why are they doing this, according to the PR team - because they care about the health of the nation, and they want people to reduce their calorie intake.

Marks and Spencer were among the first retailers to charge for carrier bags. The money they collect from customers from charging for carriers all goes to environmental causes, say their PR people, because M and S 'care about the environment', - not mentioning the fact that millions of pounds a year in carrier bag costs have now been taken off their bottom line and passed on to the consumer (the recent government legislation requiring big retailers to charge for bags is just a cynical way for the government to make big business more profitable, masquerading as environmental concern, imo).

Google, perhaps the one big company in the world that most people actually like, have a mantra 'Don't be evil', which just about sums it all up, unfortunately...
Report lovegod December 2, 2015 9:21 AM GMT
If the chocolate manufacturer above is so concerned about peoples health then why don't they stop making bars full of sugar?

It is the way the world is headed sadly. The inevitable product of the Thatcher/Reagan years.

Globalisation of the world and better communications with developing countries makes it all inevitable. Allowing developing countries to produce goods for much lower wages is the start of the developed nations downfall.

No one complains about being able to buy goods much cheaper due to Globalisation. But the inevitable consequences are that the wages of employers at lower skilled jobs have to reduce to compete. Hence the introduction of the living wage. Osborne in cloud cuckoo land believing that people can live without Tax Credits and not the relevant wage rises to compensate.

As for the case of employers redundancies, although the law exists it is very hard to overcome a bullying employer. Unless all the workers unite they can not hope to compete in the legal field. Without a Union to represent them this makes it so much harder and some staff will become disillusioned as the process continues. In the end the only winners are the lawyers. The employer will have no benefit other than shafting his former loyal employees.

It is a sad reflection of the world as it is progressing. Employment supply is far outstripping demand as the need for human workers ever decreases that can only mean the rights and entitlements of employees will ever decrease and the gap between rich and poor expands.

Not sure we need yet another socialist rant on here..

The fact is that if millions of people had not been let into the Country then wages would have held up and the ridiculous idea of tax credits would never have taken hold.

The Unions were as much to blame as they are "Internationalists" and wanted more new members any which way they could...

The same goes as regard house prices and the alleged "Generation Rent" which would never have happened without mass immigration..

I laugh because we "should have been building 200 000 new houses a year" and yet a third of a million flood in.

Cause and effect.

You treat the cause not the effect...
