New running order

This year's Saturday card started at 1.30 with three Grade 1s, the Mersey Novices' Hurdle, Doom Bar Maghull Novices' Chase and Silver Cross Stayers' Hurdle. Those three races will be run in the same order, but with the Grade 3 handicap hurdle opening the card at 1.40.

The Mersey Novices' Hurdle will be run at 2.20, 50 minutes later than last year, while the Listed handicap chase will still precede the Grand National and the conditional and amateur riders handicap hurdle will follow to close the card. The Listed mares' bumper that previously ended the card will now be run as the final race on the Thursday.

Trying everything to boost tv viewing but is it to the detriment of those who attend in person ? Bet described as 'tinkering' rather than 'constructive change' in my opinion.

Yes, because it's not the rubbish coverage where viewers are patronised to within an inch of their lives, by a presentation team so condescending it's unpleasant to watch, that's stopping people tuning in, it's that the time of the race has been too early for the last 176 years...

I don't think it's a bad idea. Footie will be finished and importantly it may be a cooler part of the day for the horses.
