I should have said Don Cockell not Woodcock.
London had two goes for the title against Patterson and Ali ( I was at that one)
Report aasbff November 28, 2015 3:50 PM GMT
I would love Fury to win and backed him accordingly. Just to prove all these haters wrong.

If anyone is gonna beat Klitschko, it's gonna be him. Joshua will be too late.

Fury has a longer reach than Klitschko and is a lot younger.

Who has Klitschko fought in recent times that Fury wouldn't beat?

I'll settle for Fury around 4/1, thanks.
Report Eeternaloptimist November 28, 2015 3:52 PM GMT
Apologies. Posting late on after a few is never wise oldgit. That must have been some experience seeing a young Ali fight live. My point was London had been beaten a lot by some pretty average fighters and hadn't shown a level of ability to suggest he could be a world champion.

I'd say Cockell was a more resilient man than London but also a level below world class. He'd been a decent light heavy but also beaten at a decent level. He put up a brave showing against Marciano without looking like winning. His one performance I'd say which suggested he was decent was the Le Starza fight but he didn't have enough fights against those around world level to give a clear idea. Which I suppose isn't a million miles away from Fury. Dominant champ, fighting in a weak division and a challenger who we just don't know if he belongs in that company.

Made slightly more interesting by the fact he is unbeaten.

thanks, No way is Fury a 9/2 shot odds all wrong imo Fury should be more like 2/1
Report Shrewd_dude November 28, 2015 5:56 PM GMT
I agree I think 9/2 is far too big. Wouldn't have Fury at 2's but I thought the 3/1-10/3 mark was about right. Think we've seen some signs of age from Wlad in the last couple of fights. Fury is quick for a big guy and he has improved a lot technically from when he was rushing in stupidly against Cunningham etc. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fury Ko'd after 4 or 5 rounds because we don't know what kind of shots he can take then get back on his feet. But just think he poses enough questions given Wlads age hat he shouldn't be 9/2.

Agree with Eternal as well. As much as I have respect for Wlad as a boxer and for his reign it would be far better for Heavyweight boxing if Fury won.

Irrespective of how poor his opponent was Fury deserves credit for taking the fight to him - a deserved win - strange how so many were saying he couldn't win before but now offer vent their criticism on Klitchko - all fighters go past their best and many do not realise it until it is far too late - I can see Fury defending the title for a few big paydays & good luck to him

Report Eeternaloptimist November 29, 2015 11:28 AM GMT
acey

It's the old adage that styles make fights. Any fighter is going to sruggle against a man of Fury's size fighting an intelligent fight as he did last night. Wlad does so much behind the jab but he was often beaten to the punch and when he did get one through they were invariably nullified by Fury's head movement with it disappearing over his soulder. People talking about how bad Wlad was disrespects the job Fury did on him last night.
Report koikeeper November 29, 2015 11:29 AM GMT
Certainly have, they were also poor, but maybe a class above fury .... what ever that class is lol
Report acey deucy November 29, 2015 11:32 AM GMT

Report Eeternaloptimist November 29, 2015 11:33 AM GMT
Give over. I once attended a Hide fight and was late in. I opened the door at the back of the arena and the gust of wind knocked him over. As for Akinwande I still can't get the memory of him continually throwing himself to the floor from sheer fright against Lewis. Fury would have battered them both on the same night.
Report acey deucy November 29, 2015 11:35 AM GMT

Report Mikael D'Haguenet November 29, 2015 11:50 AM GMT
I saw Henry Akinwande get disqualified in the ABA finals. He subsequently got DQ'd in the biggest fight of his career, vs Lewis. He wasn't terrible - just didn't like getting hit.

I also recall listening to the Hide-Bowe fight on the wireless. Couldn't believe how Hide took the fight to Bowe, who was as imposing as any champ I've seen. Then I watched the fight a couple of days later. Hide got massacred!

I was skeptical whether Fury would win but said if he did then fair play.
Well he did, so fair play.
wasnt a very good spectacle but then title fights can be tactical affairs.
What fury did do well was stop Klit bulling him and winning the fight by intimidation which is half the war.
Klit doesnt see that too often.
Report dustybin November 29, 2015 12:46 PM GMT
The downside is that whatever you thought of Klit as a boxer the man himself was a humble and respectful guy. Fury seems unstable.

There's plenty of exciting fighters out there crackerpants. Some seriously good ones who stand comparison to some of the greats from history and some emerging fighters who could turn out that way.
