There must be a bit of a word about for the Godolphin horse here, opened as big as 3s and now a shade odds on, he must be showing something as the pedigree is nothing to shout about. That could be ominous but I have to take him on here.

I was tempted by Palmerston, I liked his pedigree being a half brother to the 1m4 listed filly Martlet but ultimately I was underwhelmed by his debut. In the context of this race that run is solid enough with improvement likely but as I say, I wasnt blow away by it and I didnt get the impression he was going to leave it well behind. The extra furlong will suit him here and I doubt he will be far away but im looking elsewhere for now.

Guy Fawkes is quite interesting, by the solid sire Big Bad Bob out of Oaks 2nd Flight Of Fancy, a half brother to the decent stayer Fabricate, I wouldnt be surprised if he needed the run tomorrow given the pedigree but he might well be the horse to take from the race with a view to the future.

Pinstripe is the one I like, the dam Paisley won a 10f maiden for Cumani and is a half sister to the listed class Pinzolo and Poplin, Cumani trained Poplin as well as another half sister Materialistic who won a nice Newmarket maiden this season so he knows the family well. Pinstripe is the 3rd foal of Paisley so not much to go on but his sister did win a maiden for Cumani. He was 40/1 and asleep in the stalls first time out, must have been 8-10L last going into the bend and as the race transpired that was exactly where you didnt want to be, the first 4 all the way finished 1-2-3-4. Im pretty sure that maiden was the strongest of any of the runners with form in this race, depth wise anyway, and I really liked the way he moved in the straight, I thought he showed plenty without being asked for much and stayed on well. There is plenty of stamina on the dam side and the step up to 1 mile should definitely suit, he should be sharper from the start this time and I can see him running a very big race.
