Should Jockeys be fined for forgetting to take off hoods ?

As long as the fine is greater than their "fee" for doing it

I can tell you that the incidence of reported hood problems in running on the flat has increased at the following rate

2009 22
2010 46
2011 70
2012 95
2013 144
2014 180

I do not think the increase in number of races can account for this but I will do the check as a percentage of races

Actually thats accumulative so the correct figures are

where do you get that data from?

Simple to cure, just have all hoods removed before the start of the race.

I can also report that 2015 is currently running at 0.071%

Of course the percentage really need to be based on runners and not races but I suspect this may be more damming, I will report back

Correction the original figures were actually expressed as a percentage of runners and not races which means jockeys seemed to have become much less skilled at hood removal around 2013 onwards

Who trains/trained these horses?

They should be banned and fined

The spread of percentages over distance by total races at the distance has similar rising pattern as the distance get smaller down to 5f

The number of flat races under consideration in 2009 was 60,892

In 2014 it had dropped to 56,070

Despite this the number of late hoods off after the start has risen significantly.

Can anyone offer a reasonable explanation ?
