I can tell you that the incidence of reported hood problems in running on the flat has increased at the following rate
2009 22 2010 46 2011 70 2012 95 2013 144 2014 180 I do not think the increase in number of races can account for this but I will do the check as a percentage of races |

Of course the percentage really need to be based on runners and not races but I suspect this may be more damming, I will report back

Correction the original figures were actually expressed as a percentage of runners and not races which means jockeys seemed to have become much less skilled at hood removal around 2013 onwards

The number of flat races under consideration in 2009 was 60,892
In 2014 it had dropped to 56,070 Despite this the number of late hoods off after the start has risen significantly. Can anyone offer a reasonable explanation ? |
