just asking cos the Supreme winner is 7/4 favourite off the back of a public schooling session at Navan.
and the 5th from his Supreme just got beat further by Vaniteux on the snaff.
Despite the fact that many Supreme winners go the CH route, Douvan will be the 5th of the last 10 to attempt the Arkle, suggesting plenty have tried over the years.
Stats would put you off, the great Flyingbolt won Division 1 of the Gloucestershire Hurdle in 1964 then the Arkle in 1965, but to quantify you would need to know how many have actually tried over the years

Flyingbolt won them both. I think he started 4/9 fav for both races. I think the 2 mile novice chase at Cheltenham (then called the Cotswold Chase) was his 4th race over fences, and his 10th under NH rules, after 2 bumpers, and 4 hurdles. He was unbeaten at the time.
I'm not sure any horse has won both races since.

Buona Notte probably could have done it - he won the Supeme Novices (division of), but then won the 3 mile novice chase instead. He had, however, beaten Dunkirk in the Henry VIII novice chase at Sandown over 2 miles earlier in the year. Dunkirk would go on to be champion 2 mile chaser, and went off fav for the 2 mile novice chase at Cheltenham, but fell at the 2nd last, leaving it to the aforementioned Greektown.
Buona Notte was a brilliant racehorse, but still needed 2 stone to just get the better of Arkle over 2m6f in the Massey-Ferguson, 7 days after the latter had won the Hennessy carrying 12-7.

Beau Caprice would have been a bit old to win the Arkle. He was 12 when he won the Supreme Novices in 1966, having made his racecourse debut a few months earlier at age 11. He'd previously been used as a hunter, a charger at Knightsbridge barracks (as he was black), and been evented before going back hunting again, before finally being tried as a racehorse. He slipped his field at Cheltenham running down the hill and they couldn't get to him. As a 13yo, he came 3rd in the big handicap hurdle at Newbury, then sponsored by Schweppes, giving weight to the first 2, the winner being booed loudly all the way from the last hurdle to the unsaddling ring, and the trainer and jockey warned off.

Until Dubai and the AW started to attractrses the high rated middle distance horses from the flat, the Supreme was often won by ex flat horses that were not natural chasers. These days, the jumping bred types dominate the Festival novice hurdles other than the Triumph so it is likely that more of them will graduate to fences.
