I used to take the odd bet from him over the phone. The usual £100 e/w on a 9/4 shot. Whatever, we all bet our own way. What used to make me chuckle though was the way he'd sound. You know he's about 5'1" and weighs about 8 stone, yet he sounded like Lenny McLean!

His column in RFO today is cringeworthy.A series of winners he forgot to back,losers he did back,& tales of £3OO EW bets one of which fell at the last.Cant believe he makes a living out of the game,he makes Palmer look organised.

Unlike Joe Public, one never required 'permission to lay' one of Birchy's but you had to inform the trading office after taking the bet. No idea why...

You cannot believe this joker. Yesterday, he says he "burgled" 13-2 about some beast. No Birch, you didn't "burgle" it, the price was given to you, because of who employs you. The rest of us took the "real" price of 9-2.
He couldn't "burgle" an unlocked house ffs....

and to think some people are even tipping him to take over from "Sir Tom",the peerless,highly profitable no.1 tipster...eh!

Birch and Palmer are there to attract the the younger reader they are supposed to look like betting addicts that bet recklessly ( 3 figure EW bets on 9/4 shots says it all) and fantasise about being a pro punter but love the craic just like them.
