what standards they had disappeared long ago, anything over 10/1 runs like it, anything under that just stops

Spot on. Donald McCain was 3rd in the trainers' table behind Paul N and Nicky H for two consecutive seasons.
Has lost his way and his owners since.
Lovely guy but there is a problem there.
I was surprised C4 and Nick Luck went there last season because there was very little to report.
All rather sad. The Alan Berry of the NH scene.

Sad to see. It is a virus for sure. It's soul destroying for trainers. Kim Bailey and Oliver Sherwood have both bounced back after years of hell. Henry Cecil went through it for about five years.
McCain, Colm Murphy, John Oxx are just a few of a long list of trainers going through it these days.

Obviously the one good thing, is that when you come out the otherside you have a string of well handicapped horses.... however that is not really helpful if the owners have moved them to other stables.

McCains biggest problems are who he was taking advice from, and who he refused to take advice from, thats exactly the reason he is in the shiite he his in, and if he lives to be a thousand, he will never ever recover to where he was.

100% correct mincer

Same place as Tim Vaughan?
Report 1st time poster November 23, 2015 4:38 PM GMT
he surely isnt a complete fool and if it was 100% a virus he,s shutdown for 6 months a year and tried again,he,s lost his owners anyway,or have you inside info saying he was advised to close shop and ignored it,for fear of whats happened anyway,re owners
Report Bigwillystyle November 23, 2015 5:27 PM GMT
I think Mincer is on about those who were advising him to buy the horses.  Particularly a former jockey who is now a bloodstock agent
Report firstimevisor November 23, 2015 6:51 PM GMT
Its nothing to do with bloodstock agents, jockeys or advisors. The horses are just not finishing out their races. If he had Kauto star or hurricane fly right now they would cut out as well.
As for shutting down the yard, well thats the nuclear option. Virus's come and go without warning,he could be flying in the new year or it could take years...nobody can tell but mortgages have to be paid, staff have to be paid and just like any other business that hits hard times you keep the head up and plug away

Losing his Father couldn't have helped either. Sir H Cecil losing his brother took a lot out of him mentally his wife said.

Sorry but I think comparing him to - Alan Berry is a bit harsh !!!
Report mincer11 November 23, 2015 7:41 PM GMT
He also chose to ignore the advice of Jason Maguire, and that was really the nail in his coffin.
Report swingwhenuwinning November 23, 2015 7:49 PM GMT
Seen him a newmarket sales few years ago, buying every horse that moved.even the auctioneer thanked him when it was all over
Report Diff-rent November 23, 2015 7:56 PM GMT
I never realised John Oxx stable could be possibly effected by a virus. Wasn't that long ago he was winning group 1s.
