That truly is unbelievable, what an outfit it must be.

Indeed ...

Pure Science, CH, G, 7-y-o
Galileo (Robellino)     2,000 GBP     Harvey Smith     19May15 Dbs

BUT...

How must the person who paid 160,000gns for it, as a Yearling, now feel?

160,000gns Y; fourth foal; half-brother to smart 1m (inc Gr 3) winner Recharge and 1m winner Regalline; dam Group winner from 7f-1m2f, including Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, sister to smart 1m-1m3f performer Quws.

surely the owner sold it
Report Twoboyz November 22, 2015 4:10 PM GMT
Owner was the late Raymond Mould

Terrible trainer only won 2 Grand Nationals and a Gold Cup and 2nd in a Champion Hurdle.

We know the owner sold it, but the point is that Twiston Davies must have been adamant that it was a complete write off. Otherwise they wouldnt have let it go for 2 grand. Do you honestly think that if Henderson or Nicholls cast off could be bought for 2k, that it would win its second race by half the track

It was sold in May, this year.

Although having fallen on it's last outing for T-D - it had, nevertheless, won a Chase on it';s previous outing - just 6 months before it was sold.

Mind you - it was a slow time, and an 'eventful' race ...

[b[PURE SCIENCE somehow made a winning chase debut[/b]. Happy
Jumping moderately throughout, he required a highly animated ride just to stay in contention and showed tremendous character. Although a half-brother to a couple of smart milers, he has clearly inherited bags of stamina and stayed on dourly to erode what looked like a decisive advantage.

Perhaps, though - as emphasised today - T-D should have kept him to HURDLES ... given his earlier Hurdles success ...

PURE SCIENCE, who finished sixth in the 2013 Champion Bumper,
was well backed and won for the first time over hurdles at the seventh attempt. He looked in trouble some way out but kept responding to his rider´s urgings and saw the trip out best. He would probably be better given a stiffer test but this will do his confidence no harm.

I didn't know they paid 160,000 for jumpers.

It had run respectably in a grade one NHF, besides winning two races before it was sold.
It was obviously worth more than 2,000.

I was at those sales and I have just looked at the results and I remember the lass of Sybarite being so happy that they had bought back Sybarite.

They didn't Dr Crippen - BUT - plenty of others DO.

Twiston-Davies/Raymond Mould would have, probably, bought it privately, after it failed to make the racecourse as a Flat horse.

It is essentially Flat-bred - and it looks like it was originally named Protractor - BUT - never ran under that name - so could be re-named.

Protractor, CH, C, y

Whether they make 2k, 5k or 10k becomes somewhat irrelevant over a period of 5 or 6 years cos its going to cost 15k minimum per year to keep in training. If the owner was happy to sell at the sales, the market decides the price.
Report Dr Crippen November 22, 2015 4:52 PM GMT
Must have forgotten to put a reserve on it at the auction.

Or couldn't care less what it fetched anyway. These people who buy horses to put into training have got money to burn anyway.

I know that lass Steamship, She adores Sybarite.

Tell her that her love for him was noted.
