Under the rules of racing that horse should be deemed a runner. If the stewards choose to ignore the rules that's up to them.

Laid it, he lined up in my opinion, it was a lay to nothing virtually. No guarantee to win if he started, was always likely to give ground at the
start in that mood................and the brucie bonus, may not start. If he is declared a runner in, which he should, punters were ripped off, he
was never going, and if like me you laid it, and it is declared a non runner, disgraceful. Horse lined up with field, whilst being held.

Have said on here many times, if a horse makes no attempt to jump first.............NON RUNNER.

don't care much about the people that lose their winning lay bets on a horse that was obviously not going to start but it has wider implications, anyone who did a back to lay on the winner will be unhappy when they realise they've laid it IR at a HIGHER price than they backed it prerace through no fault of their own. There should be no confusion here, it's either led away and dismounted and then they race or its under oders,m zero room for a grey area here imo

Lamps' record was 6 wins 10 places from 26 runs. Where is the evidence that he was temperamental and likely to refuse like that clown on ATR is inferring? That is a very good record for a horse running at that level. What is disgusting is the contempt the Jockey/Trainer have, as it was clear it was never going to start. I have been following Racing for 40 years but I am becoming utterly turned off by the way it is run.

The current rule is probably based on centuries of old fogey rules . The oldest adage in racing is "if you cant win , you cant lose " . Horses who do not start a race cannot win . Pretty obvious .

Connections of Lamps dont come out with any credit either , jockey or starter do not deseve any thanks from punters .  Some people ( maybe on track mainly ) have obviously benefiited fro the situation , but any profit they got has been filched from someone else .

Someone had a whip at the start and it consented to race last year this year no whip...
Report RothmanMike November 9, 2015 5:47 PM GMT
The game is called GAMBLING.
This includes a horse winning, a jockey riding well, a horse not falling, a horse not whipping round, a horse not being disqualified by stewards, AND a horse starting.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone who plays.
Report hulk23 November 9, 2015 5:53 PM GMT
agreed, but the issue here is the horse was never ever going to start with the jockey on its back.  so someone should have taken the decision to lead it away and they go without it.  instead he jumps back on it and it does what it had already done 3 or 4 times ie dug its heels in and refused to move.  the only time it actually moved was when he got off it.
Report Deltâ November 9, 2015 5:54 PM GMT

again agreed, but those involved, particularly the jockey had to make a judgement call as to whether that was going to jump off.  again bear in mind it had not moved an inch with him in the saddle for 5 minutes before the off.  the only time it consented to move was when he jumped off.  so imo a poor call not to lead it away.  and i didn't back it.

The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that LAMPS, ridden by Nick Schofield, had refused to race despite walking forward with the field, having been called in by the Starter, and was therefore deemed to be a runner for betting purposes. They interviewed Michael Blake, the trainer, and the Starter. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the start and, bearing in mind that LAMPS had been unruly at the start at Ffos Llas on 12 April 2015 and was unruly at the start and withdrawn at Uttoxeter on 4 October 2015, the Stewards informed the trainer that future similar behaviour may result in the gelding being reported to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.

Non-Race related incidents
Race 4: The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Nick Schofield, the rider of LAMPS, had appeared to strike his horse whilst dismounted prior to the start of the race. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident they found him in breach of Rule (B)54.2 and guilty of improper riding. They suspended him for 1 day as follows: Monday 23 October 2015.
Report Clarky9 November 11, 2015 12:21 AM GMT
The risk in him not starting was factored into the price. If you took 3.2 and the horse had have run, then there's every chance you could have traded out immediately at 2.4-2.5...

The horse has played up dozens of times before at the start and has always run. To be honest I feel sorry for the layers who had to take such a risk laying him at 9/4. Fair play to them and deserved their reward..
