Events such as we just witnessed show big flaws in the current set up / rules . Racing depends on the public , the punting public in particular . Anyone who backed Lamps was robbed no matter what way you cut it , deductions , quirky sort etc .

Not surprised though ,but when common sense should be applied properly , they duck out .

Right decision he ran. I have that warm sensation in my pants of smugness LaughLaughDevil, however it is horrid for punters at work
who have no chance of cashing out............even at a loss.

anyone who backed it should blame the trainer/jockey imo - never should have taken their chances at the start.

The whole game is a stinking circus. Why people expect there to be some sort of exception is quite baffling.

you pay your money you take your chance, 9.42 BFSP layers would have been seething had it consented to start

horse been brought from trowbridge that must be a good 200 miles, trainer & jockey obviously keen to give it every chance to start, theyre not bothered about what happens to punters

Had it consented to start no way would it have returned a BSP of 9.42 BB, that price was returned because people at the track laid it for all they had when it was obvious it wasn't going anywhere not before the off.

The horse may be a dog but the whole racing game is disgraceful at the moment grey areas are not taken seriously and the bookmaker has all the wild cards well done layers though easy money

Looking at all the conversations are people genuinely unaware of the rules or trying it on.

If it is the former, it may put these guys off for life.

Lamps' record was 6 wins 10 places from 26 runs. Where is the evidence that he was temperamental and likely to refuse like that clown on ATR is inferring? That is a very good record for a horse running at that level. What is disgusting is the contempt the Jockey/Trainer have, as it was clear it was never going to start. I have been following Racing for 40 years but I am becoming utterly turned off by the way it is run.

Horse should be put off till it consents to run. Like having a stalls test on the flat. Ridiculous situation there

there is no satisfactory outcome to a situation like this .

if a even money refuses , backers of the other horses should not be penalised for a 45p/50p deduction , just so the backers of the horse that refuses get their money back  .

The current rule is probably based on centuries of old fogey rules . The oldest adage in racing is "if you cant win , you cant lose " . Horses who do not start a race cannot win . Pretty obvious .

Connections of Lamps dont come out with any credit either , jockey or starter do not deseve any thanks from punters .  Some people ( maybe on track mainly ) have obviously benefiited fro the situation , but any profit they got has been filched from someone else .

No one has ever explained why situations like this are not dealt with by the stewards . Just laziness on authorities part I suspect .

the fault is with the starter imo , he should see the horse is playing up and withdraw it.

No common sense amongst the racing authorities though, roida and they wonder why racing's dying on it's arse compared to other sports.

Cost me money but I'll take it on the chin cos it's only one race out of thousands for me, for part time punters who have the odd bet things like that put them off for life.

Someone had a whip at the start and it consented to race last year this year no whip...

The game is called GAMBLING.
This includes a horse winning, a jockey riding well, a horse not falling, a horse not whipping round, a horse not being disqualified by stewards, AND a horse starting.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone who plays.
By:

When: 09 Nov 15 17:53
agreed, but the issue here is the horse was never ever going to start with the jockey on its back.  so someone should have taken the decision to lead it away and they go without it.  instead he jumps back on it and it does what it had already done 3 or 4 times ie dug its heels in and refused to move.  the only time it actually moved was when he got off it.

again agreed, but those involved, particularly the jockey had to make a judgement call as to whether that was going to jump off.  again bear in mind it had not moved an inch with him in the saddle for 5 minutes before the off.  the only time it consented to move was when he jumped off.  so imo a poor call not to lead it away.  and i didn't back it.
