£171,000 this year for the World Hurdle and €233,000 for the Grand Prix Automne at Auteil today.

Got to ask why people don't sent their horses over to France more. A 3/4 fit decent horse would have beat Thousand Stars today.

The problem is if you have a horse that good you really should be thinking in terms of Cheltenham.Thousand Stars must be the greatest over-achiever of all time at Grade 1 level.

^ Why Eddie does prestige pay the bills ?

If you were an owner would you rather win that race today or a 25K race at Cheltenham next weekend.
Report MadVlad November 7, 2015 6:52 PM GMT
Well I aint rich so a no brainer for me !
Report MadVlad November 7, 2015 6:53 PM GMT
Are u seriously suggesting I would want the 25k race next week ?????????
Report MadVlad November 7, 2015 6:54 PM GMT
I suppose if you were in the game for pleasure and not money..............

I suspect at least 90% of the people on here would rather have the winner at Cheltenham next weekend.

good luck to them then,I suspect that's why the prize money is dire in the uk if owners are quite happy.
Report gutfeeling November 7, 2015 7:57 PM GMT
Just shows how wrong the Uk have it compared to the French.

One could say he was an overachiever but that is a little unfair. In fact he was very unlucky not to have won a couple of Liverpool hurdles. His reputation suffered because he ran against HF a number of times and of course it suited the mischief-makers to say he was beating nothing.

Thousand Stars is top class horse, he form shows that. He clearly enjoys the pace of french races.

French tote money goes back into racing, UK tote goes into pockets.

I have a share in one in France rated 75 or thereabouts. €2,800 for coming third vs £800 in the UK.  It's a no brainer in financial terms.  Prize money in the UK is dire, you can't get more than 50 pence on with bookmakers.  The sport is dying in this country IMO.

Doesnt Nick Williams have a satellite yard in france ?

Owners want to beat the best horses hence the Cheltenham importance.

But surely the top horses should be competing for large pots.

Nicholls and Mullins have been sending more to France in recent years but for the other trainers they are missing opportunities.

No wonder French horses never compete at Cheltenham given the prize money.

When you think of how many French imports that win the Cheltenham races there are probably better ones still running in France.

The Cheltenham festival is slowly killing the competitiveness of the National Hunt game as trainers swerve each other until March. How many graded two mile hurdle races have 1/4 shots running as there are enough for everyone to avoid each other?

At least with flat you get horses racing against each other more often.

£171,000 this year for the World Hurdle and €233,000 for the Grand Prix Automne at Auteil today.

Is the OP implying that one of the two major French staying races over hurdles is worth more than the British equivalent?

At the current exchange rate the World Hurdle is worth more.
Report quantize November 8, 2015 10:52 AM GMT
I am implying that the horses battling the finish yesterday would not be in the first six at Cheltenham.
Report 1st time poster November 8, 2015 11:11 AM GMT
look at the prizemoney right through the card today ,not a uk runner in sight
Report SHADDER November 8, 2015 11:32 AM GMT
Dickie Johnson has ridden 130 uk winners this season
James Reveley has won considerably more prize money than him riding in France this summer / autumn.
Report gutfeeling November 8, 2015 12:00 PM GMT
Ibrahima the Williams rent a yard in Chantilly where they train the horses they buy in France.
Some come over to the Uk some do not with training split between Nick & Jean.
