Got to ask why people don't sent their horses over to France more. A 3/4 fit decent horse would have beat Thousand Stars today.

The problem is if you have a horse that good you really should be thinking in terms of Cheltenham.Thousand Stars must be the greatest over-achiever of all time at Grade 1 level.

One could say he was an overachiever but that is a little unfair. In fact he was very unlucky not to have won a couple of Liverpool hurdles. His reputation suffered because he ran against HF a number of times and of course it suited the mischief-makers to say he was beating nothing.

Thousand Stars is top class horse, he form shows that. He clearly enjoys the pace of french races.
French tote money goes back into racing, UK tote goes into pockets. |

I have a share in one in France rated 75 or thereabouts. €2,800 for coming third vs £800 in the UK. It's a no brainer in financial terms. Prize money in the UK is dire, you can't get more than 50 pence on with bookmakers. The sport is dying in this country IMO.

Owners want to beat the best horses hence the Cheltenham importance.
But surely the top horses should be competing for large pots. Nicholls and Mullins have been sending more to France in recent years but for the other trainers they are missing opportunities. No wonder French horses never compete at Cheltenham given the prize money. When you think of how many French imports that win the Cheltenham races there are probably better ones still running in France. The Cheltenham festival is slowly killing the competitiveness of the National Hunt game as trainers swerve each other until March. How many graded two mile hurdle races have 1/4 shots running as there are enough for everyone to avoid each other? At least with flat you get horses racing against each other more often. |

Is the OP implying that one of the two major French staying races over hurdles is worth more than the British equivalent? At the current exchange rate the World Hurdle is worth more. |

Ibrahima the Williams rent a yard in Chantilly where they train the horses they buy in France.
Some come over to the Uk some do not with training split between Nick & Jean. |
