and what happened after showed how much of a good thing it was that day.
LOW KEY Jan 22nd 2014 at Kempton, as a 7yo landed a massive gamble, part of the Curley coup. off a mark of 65. has since won off 82 on the flat and 129 over hurdles. his previous 3 runs prior to Kempton, 7th of 7 beaten 90L at Southwell, 7th of 8 at Lingfield and 4th of 5 at Wolverhampton.
dropped from an initial 88 to 60, took a couple of years but one of the best laid out horses in recent years imo.
Ran at Lingers 3 weeks before to see how she handled the kick-back. We were all on her next time and got backed from 10-1 into 9-4. Good ol' Con. Tara Colleen ended up going to Norway with her ex super-model owner. Con's a boyo hehe.

Exponential slightly different breeding, i might be wrong but dont think it showed anything after that race, still a debate who was behind it, Veitch claiming it was him.
crosser was that laid out in a handicap, what mark what did it run to after.

In the days before exchanges, early prices etc. to the mid 1960s. A horse called Caspian was bought cheaply unraced out of Noel Murless's stable and appeared in a maiden at Birmingham. The small trainer was virtually unknown and the horse was backed from 33/1 into 3/1 favourite and duly won by 5 lengths. And no I wasn't on.

I actually remember looking at the market all day for that race when the morning market was people used to actually bet all day on races on here, crazy stuff.

Does anybody remember a horse at the Cheltenham festival who was backed from 25/1 to 9/2 , where the 7/4 favourite was as dead as a door nail It's a long time ago now and my memory isn't what it used be.

Hunt Ball would be a recent "good thing" winning a handicap off 69 - backed into 6/4, not sure what price it would have been early doors.
Went on to win at the festival nearly twelve months later off 142 carrying 12 stone of Anthony's money.

Saxon dont think Destriero was O Grady .Altho can recall he was owned by Noel Furlong who went for a monster coup as he also had Destriero doubled with a moderate horse cant recall its name that ran in the champion hurdle later in the day but totally out of its depth.

Mentioned this Mare on another thread Tom - "Winnie The Witch" trained by the late Ken Bridgewater and ridden by his son David - ran and got beaten in sellers where they couldnt "Sell" her lol - anyway was mapped out for a race at Leicester off a mark of 91 where she duly dotted up after being bet in from 33s-11s .
She went onto win such races as the County Hurdle and Swinton in 91 with her highest OR being 148 - some "improvement" along the way lol - happy days

Dettoris final leg of the 7 was weight of running on money as opposed to someone landing a gamble with a horse that was clearly well in.

About 35-40 years ago I was about 10 years old, and at (probably) Ripon with my dad and the place went wild about 4 minutes before the 6F selling handicap.
China Gold - I still recall the name was backed from 25/1 to 7/1 and duly won.
