After a 5 minute wait the girl said the bet is fine but we cant do Evens it will have to be one to one.
That was  the second phone call, I hung up the 1st after the fella couldn't find a price for City to win the league.
What sort of training do these people get.

We all know that they would not lay an egg..

The point is that the hapless ex "betting shop" owner ("WHO SOLD IT FOR A FORTUNE") wanted even money on Man City winning the Premiership..

This must be a forum for mental cases...

Homefortea the fella asked me for 1k on 4 teams to win respective leagues which I took.
The acc price to him worked out at 16.1/1 I had the bet away with C orals at 20.8/1 so I stand to win over 4k for **** all, the bet prob wont kop but I lose nowt and didnt fancy standing it myself.

You didnt get a choice in the matter sittin behind the counter working for someone else, brewing up and cleaning the bogs.

As for the shop it was out of town and no bigger than a portacabin which is what it basically was. As for going skint we got bought out twice and both times we would of took even half of what they offered. While you were sticking your companies winnings in the bank we were taking ours home with us to our big house in our fancy cars.  We probably made more on the first couple of dog races on a Saturday morning than you took home in a week. Good luck.

lol one to one.

I once phoned up Ladbrokes and asked for a price for a tiebreak in a tennis match. The phone operator went in to a meltdown and didn't seem to know what a tiebreak was.

Stupid b@stards!

maineroad - I have never been involved in "brewing up and cleaning the bogs" just as you haven't although in the shops I managed at least the facilities were in place Laugh. As regards your "big house" it would fit nicely at the bottom of my large garden where the summer house is.And I did not have to work in that shi tehole of an area constantly looking over my shoulder....

As regards your "Bookmaking" skills...

No wonder you were working out of a Moss Side portacabin with that level of bottle..

If there is another War you would be a conscientious objector..LaughLaugh

When I was a newly qualified "Betting Office" Manager(!)...LaughLaughI had a life changing few weeks around the corner from the maineroad superstore in somewhere called Hulme..

I could handle the abuse the 900 bets per day the cheats drug dealers dolites and druggies especially as there was no night racing or even evening opening..

The Stanley Racing managers shared a flat at Chorlton opposite the bus station before the area was "gentrified"..

I asked if I could work at Moss Side as the pay was far greater and as a newbie I was told that I had no chance as it was too rough..

Well coming from a nice family in a country area I was shocked as there could not have been a bigger shi tehole in the World than Hulme before it was raised to the ground.

I even spent a couple of weeks in 1980's Salford and even though the shop was broken into five times during my tenure nothing could compare to Hulme...

I was in a shop where 15 years ago we took 50k a week and I had four cashiers on a Saturday and had a phone business..

Single manned from 2-9 pm on a Saturday...

How have the staff let that happen and why are the owners so clueless and cost cutting...

Maineroad if you want to open a shop that can make money pm me....

It will have toilets a kettle and no bandit screen..

I would open a shop myself but have enough money...

Should have tried working the Coral in Longsight; absolute cesspit. The Ike Lewis in Hattersley was a bit of an eye-opener too. Happy days though; used to live 100 yards away from the Stanley shop in Chorlton.

I left Chorlton in 82, but had some fantastic times there. Worked as a settler/ relief manager in all the Lewis shops in my Uni holidays - Benchill was a bit lively too come to think of it. There was so much smoke in the Chorlton shop on a Saturday afternoon you couldn't see the front door. Had some great times and met some fantastic people in front and behind the counter. All the managers used to meet for Saturday night snooker in Chorlton Conservative Club which had a fruitie with a £100 jackpot.
