RICHARD HUGHES is to move his string from Hampshire to the legendary Weathercock House Stables in Lambourn this weekend.
The former champion jockey, who retired in August, is in his first season as a trainer and has sent out 11 runners from a yard owned by fellow trainer Ken Cunningham-Brown near Stockbridge.
Hughes said on Friday night: "Weathercock House has been a very famous yard over the years. The horses will be moving in this weekend."
Weathercock House was made famous by Jenny Pitman, who became the first woman to train a Grand National winner courtesy of Corbiere in 1983.

No mention of it in his column in the RP today. There must have been some sort of falling out with Cunningham-Brown.
Thats amazing, watched him show Mick around last week at C/Browns a really cracking place , he said you couldn't ask for a better place to train from , the gallops were excellent and he'd had his eye on the place for years he said, sad if they have fallen out so soon.

it must have been a very casual arrangement with no formal lease in place...very strange
that is quick reading his rp page a few weeks ago it came over what a rookie trainer he really was straight in the deep end.he didn't even have any tack for the horses and had to go buy it when really all that should have been in place. I like the fella and wish him the best just think he should have been a assistant for while when he finished riding to get his team and things together. good luck to him
Didn't know that , find it a little hard to believe ,having been stable jock to his father in law for many years I'm sure he learnt plenty from Hannon . Attention to detail is essential if one is to become a truly great trainer , if the above re tack is true then Richard has fallen at the first fence...
Could end up with another Pat Eddery scenario - sadly.
I was intrigued by how Waseem Faris had turned into a bit of a win machine of late having previously always been more likely to place and not looked the most heartiest, and so wondered if KCB had trained that horse without from any input by Hughes, or had its recent improvement been down to Hughes's influence in its training regime?!

maybe the price changed after the owner read the rave reviews 
One that cost 34,000 gns in July and is owned by Hughes, after it had been well beaten on his debut for him and therefore perhaps less chance of being able to sell it on, he was given it the hard sell in his column about the horse being eligible for premiums in France!
Someone must know, it will come out in a min surely.
maybe wife and famly could not settle,he did say it would be harder for them then him....also if Denmark still owns weathercock house he might have offered him horses to train etc,just a theory.

I heard a rumour Cunningham Brown wouldn't even let Hughes use his gallop for the last week.
I thought Hughes and brown had been big friends for good few years to not let him use gallops would mean something serious

Most flat jockeys are as thick as shiite, there has never been a flat jockey who made it as a racehorse trainer yet, Hughes was hardly going to be the first. Eddery Roche Swinburn are just 3 who come to mind immediately , there are countless others .
This is so odd. I watched a promotional video of his new stables at Danebury & Hughes looked so chuffed with his new home & talked of his doing the place up with new facilities has cost him a fortune. Has he just refurbed Browns for him?!
I can't see how it could be a problem with his family failing to settle as Lambourne to Collingbourne (Hannons) is just as far as Danebury.
And why decide to occupy an old jumps yard? Hasn't Mark Pitman just moved back in there anyway? All very odd.

I was surprised as anyone to read this especially having seen the vt with Mick Fitz. HOWEVER! A fair few years ago I got offered a job as Assistant by KC-B. Went down, got shown round (its a lovely place) and got on great with him. Agreed terms, handed my notice in at work, put my house up for rent, signed a contract to rent a house in Stockbridge. Then THREE days before I was due to move, I got a fax "sorry no job available, current assistant staying!" (I'm not even sure there was a current assistant either) So I am not surprised RH fell out with him - in fact I nearly emailed him to warn him!!! I think KC-B is HUGELY possessive of the place (love to know who spent the money doing it up as it looks v different to when I went there - KC-B is seriously loaded but I'll wager it was RH's money)

Surprised to read that top jockeys dont make top trainers,not a bit like football when only top players are supposed to be good enough to be pundits !!
Fortunately George, my boss was brilliant - fax had come through to his office but he kept me on anyway.
Depends on individual whether they make it as a trainer and backers - I think some of the lesser jockeys have done well because they were so hands-on in the yards they worked in, which I think RH probably has been. Others who have failed (like Lester & John Francome) I'd imagine had far less to do other than go in and ride work/school.

RICHARD HUGHES saddled his first winner as a trainer this week from his new yard in Lambourn and in his Racing Post column the former champion jockey explained the reason for his switch from Danebury.
He said: "You will be wondering why I didn't say anything about the move in last week's column, so I'll try to explain. It wasn't a decision taken quickly or lightly, although it might have seemed so.
"Our family is growing and while the house at Danebury is lovely, it would soon have been a tight squeeze. We were prepared to compromise for the sake of my new career and our two children were happy to share a room, but Lizzie is expecting again and with another on the way it simply wasn't going to be practical.
"It's essential I live on the yard - I wouldn't have it any other way - and as soon as I realised we might need somewhere bigger, I had to start thinking fast. There was no agreement in place with Ken and he was very understanding.
"Ken has been very helpful and was instrumental in getting me going, but things evolve and it wasn't to be. I'm very grateful to him and also to Malcolm Denmark, who has been very considerate in getting me into Weathercock House."
First runner from new base a winner
Explaining the speed behind the move, he added: "For licensing reasons we had to move by November 1 and it all happened very quickly at the end of the week. I couldn't very well tell readers of the Racing Post before I told all of my owners and staff and I was only able to confirm it after last week's column had been put to bed.
"With the help of a convoy of vehicles from the Hannons and great teamwork from my staff the horses all moved on Saturday morning, but it wasn't as many as you might have read as the yearlings weren't at Danebury and are only arriving now.
"We are in the yard from which Jenny Pitman sent out so many good winners and next door to my brother- and sister-in-law Sylvester and Fanny Kirk, who have kids the same age, which will make the school run easier.
"I'm a great believer in fate. There's a reason for everything and we are hopefully here in Upper Lambourn for good now.
"Winning with Duchess Of Marmite, our first runner from the new base, was the perfect start and a great boost for everyone. Hopefully she will be the first of many."

There is no doubt he will make it as a Trainer imo,he has some of the biggest owners in the world sending him horses and that always helps.
he expects his loyal viewers to believe that is the reason for leaving!!
Only the Post would allow him to come up with such a cck & bull story without questioning it.

Another winner to day at Wolves..Ive always found him to be balanced and a reliable opinion. All the conspiracy and derision reflect poorly on many contributors. Maybe in thes troubled times we can be more supportive of decent people working in our favourite sport
