There never is!   They post there is a problem usually about an hour after the problem occurs. If they have not fixed it within about an hour and a half (never sooner) they post a "sorry/not fixed" update.

This is almost invariably followed by complete silence, UNLESS they fix the problem very quickly in which case they post a "We are sorry IF (sic) this caused you inconvenience" message.

If resolution takes longer, they remove all reference to the problem and say absolutely nothing.

"THEY" do not do explanations or closure apologies, as their handling of Saturday's debacle demonstrates.

Hope this helps.

*anymore, they use to

When was that Pablo?

Quote me just a rough example of when they.....

1. Gave a proper meaningful apology (and I do know how to write one!!)

2. Explained the root cause of a problem in simple terms that the average forumite could understand

3. Stated how the problem had been fixed, again in simple terms.

4. Demonstrated that steps had been taken to prevent recurrence (explaining what those steps were would be nice but this is probably a step too soon for a business in its infancy as regards customer servicing skills).

5. Provided a reassuring statement that demonstrated that customer service levels were important them and "remained" a high priority.

Looking forward to your examplesWink

Looking forward to your examples

easily pleased BB Happy

about 3-4 years ago there were a lot of outages within the space of about 1 month or something like that .

they held a Q&A forum chat specifically because of the outage/s which is still on the site ( in the left menu , forum chat ) http://community.betfair.com/forum_chat/go/thread/view/94078/26924457/live-site-performance-forum-chat-thursday-10th-february-6pm-gmt

there have been other examples where they have gave detailed explanations , but it was all gobbledegook geek talk which no one took notice of because we just want the outages and problems to be fixed and not happen again .
Report BARROWBOY October 27, 2015 11:25 PM GMT
since they got away with the VLV debacle without proper explanation ignoring site outage over the last 4 days & still ongoing should be a piece of cake.
Report blackbarn October 27, 2015 11:31 PM GMT
LaughLaughLaugh You seem to be damning them with faint praise. If I have read you correctly we are in violent agreement.  Gobbledegook is not an explanation, however detailed or well meant.

My response intended to Pablo of course.  BARROWBOY - Couldn't agree more.

damning them with faint praise

nice phrase

yes we are in agreement ,it p!sses everyone off when there is no explanation and they sweep it under the carpet like it has never happened BB , yet continue to treat their customers as they do by ignoring their needs/wants :

bring the old site back
not advertising the exchange
slow pics on live video
PC charge needs addressing

etc

I just get the impression that betfair used to be a bit more open compared to now

Half term holiday-none of their IT experts are there.

they have run out of excuses, the site is rubbish, it should be fixable, but they obviously don't have the staff capable of fixing it, therefore it will continue to crash on a regular basis.

The crux of the matter is that they really don't care about the exchange anymore, their priority is to get Joe Public using the rest of the games and Sportsbook, and we can go Fck ourselves
Report wildmanfromborneo October 28, 2015 8:45 AM GMT
Two excellent suggestions here.

Bring back the old site.
Stop trying to divert us on to Sportsbook and Casino.
Report sparrow October 28, 2015 9:10 AM GMT
The fact that they no longer advertise the exchange tells you everything.
Report Lex October 28, 2015 9:39 AM GMT
The ultimate factor in my view is that they run a forum and allow your feelings to be globally broadcast.

If they were really concerned about the upset caused to what is probably a tiny percentage of active users they wouldnt allow that.

Its a business run for their profit not for us.

When Betfair started it was a massive broadside against the bookmaker.

The bookmaker couldnt stop it, so they bought the company and turned it into more than an exchange after the founders had made their money.
Then they needed one system to run everything from sportsbook, to games to exchange.
Its a huge logistical problem and its got faults because its still using the old database hence why there is separate Australian access.

Its all quite logical and simple really. The exchange will continue as a hedging facility but the corporate money is being spent elsewhere and not on the original concept of the exchange because they dont want users laying bets. Thats for bookmakers; which was their grievance in the first place.

The bookies won.
Report swift-tuttle October 28, 2015 10:01 AM GMT
would be interesting Lex to know if your system worked in reverse i.e. ditching all bar fav for a fixed profit and looking for back prices in running at BFSP +15%

It's not just the exchange which is run badly but the betfair sportsbook aswell. If you read any review sites, trustpilot for one, around the web betfair is rated right near the bottom. What I don't get is how the share price is so high. Bound to come crashing down in the not to distant future.
Report Lex October 28, 2015 1:39 PM GMT
swifty - yes the principle is the same, but the losing runs are painfull especially if you got itchy fingers and lose yer discipline.
In the old days I would just back the field against the fav with varied stakes to enhance the value, which is wot layin is anyway.
Betfair made it so much easier but if it goes then I will just revert back to the old ways.
