but the Derby second and Irish Derby winner on Gd to Fm is not running in the Arc because its not soft enough Laugh

apparently this unraced on soft ground horse loves the mud Shocked

I cannot believe Godolphin have allowed Gosden to talk them into this, on what planet does the Champion stakes compare to the Arc, sure they can go for it next year if he stays fit, but surely his best chance is with the 3yo allowance just now
Pause Switch to Standard View Jack Hobbs has never run on soft...

I've been trying to get my head around this and not sure what conclusion to make.  Perhaps Godolphin are actually being clever and realise that Treve is a cert and are trying to have a fresh horse for the Champions Stakes given that there are so many unlikely runners behind him in the betting if rain arrives.  On the contrary surely you could actually improve your horses profile by finishing an honourable second to the great mare and if for some reason she didn't win the race surely you would be kicking yourself by not running.

It is quite simple really. Gosden trains Jack Hobbs and Golden Horn. They have met twice and Golden Horn has come out on top both times. So the conversation goes like this:

Sheikh Mohammed: "Has Jack Hobbs improved?"
Gosden: "Yes."
SM "Has he improved enough to beat Golden Horn?"
Gosden: "No."
SM: "OK, there's no point in taking him to Paris then."

Would be a slightly naive conversation Clerkmore imo.  Both been trained differently and while GH has been trained through the season JH had his mid season break with a view to an autumn campaign. Hard to tell just from homework who would beat who on a one off day in Paris

If Gosden doesn't know, there's not much chance for you or I.

shake mo normally very sporting and has a go at anything even when odds stacked against him find it odd hes not running thought that was point of putting him away after the irish derby to win the arc, another kick in the teeth for AP backers

I know its a longshot but maybe a trip to the breeders cup classic would be right up that horses street
Or maybe out to dubai ?

Couldn't agree with you anymore, " comparing the champion stakes to the arc ".  It's a ridiculous statement. We only have to look at the roll of honour of past winners of both races to see they're not the same.

why all the panic JH not running in The Arc....Why would it beat Golden Horn.

Being by Halling, Jack Hobbs should be a good ground horse but he has always looked an out and out stayer to me so I am dubious about his realtive ability over 10 furlongs. It does depend on the opposition of course.
Report lewisham ranger October 2, 2015 11:03 AM BST
gosden has probably told sheikh mo that there's no point running him in the arc, as golden horn is a certainty Wink
Report sparrow October 2, 2015 12:02 PM BST
I wouldn't believe too much about what Gosden says.
Report Can't Catch Me October 2, 2015 12:19 PM BST
lewisham is spot on imo.

Gosden has told them JH wouldnt beat GH with roller skates on.

GH is sick of beating Jack Hobbs...
Report harry callaghan October 2, 2015 3:00 PM BST
i wonder if gosden thinks jack hobbs may have been able to beat golden horn from a decent draw in the arc?

we'll never know now will we john

Golden Horn is their Golden Boy and rightly so, but Jack Hobbs deserved his shot at the Arc, he is no second string.

They always said he was a late developer and that Golden Horn was more the finished article early in the season. Considering Jack Hobbs has had an excellent Arc preparation while Golden Horn has not, and that he had more improvement in him, could they really be confident he had no chance of getting close to Golden Horn now?

Thats before you even take into consideration that milk turns quicker than Golden Horn while jack Hobbs has a better cruising speed and gear change which is ideal for the race.
