Not only do they make you sp only in the shops, ban u from putting on bets over the phone, restrict u to peanuts, they then take away your best odds guaranteed without telling u.
Had £100 on 6/4 shot at 11.15. Non runner already at 9.30. No further non runners. Was paid out at 6/4. I phoned up customer services to be told that rule 4 affects all bets no matter what time horse was withdrawn. Tried to explain to him this is wrong but he wouldn't have it. Wouldn't put me thru to a manager, checked with settlers who said they were right and I was wrong.
After arguing the point he eventually went away again and admitted that the actual reason was that I was no longer entitled to bog. I should have been told this but he admitted I wasnt. Still wouldn't put me thru to a manger and said it was tough.
Seriously, these bookies can just do what they like and it appears there is nothing we can do about it.

Why don't u2 just f### right off? This is a betting forum. There are plenty of people out there who have no idea how bookies actually work.the amount of people who were gobsmacked following the 3 tv programmes recently who didn't believe that bookies could restrict bets was amazing.

I have been restricted and lost bog before but not without being told. Why should I accept a loss on wht I thought I had?

And as for giving up, I have had to accept reducing my stake by at least 50% and the number of bets by 50% also due to not being able to,get on. I would rather win less than lose like I have done the last 3 months.

£ 55 rugby bet lost
After a week the £ 200 bonus disappeared from the balance , when asked why they sated t&c that the initial deposit must be turned over 8 times to qualify for the bonus, he stated that in his opinion that did not promote responsible gambling.
Better was to follow when he withdraw the £ 250 remaining in the account the request was denied and it was now stated that because a withdrawal request was made before 8 times the initial deposit had not been turned over any winnings were forfeited.

Dealer - can I just ask what it matters how u make a profit? So what if I backed at top price and followed tipsters? It took me 16 years to have my first profitable year. Bookies have a built in overround on each race. As someone wrote in the racing post today, if they can't make a profit on 1.5% overround per horse then they shouldn't be in the business,
97-98% of punters who bet lose long term. What they actually want is that figure to become 100%. Surely if u can't win u can lose?
They are supposed to be bookies after all.
What about when they restrict u to a fiver at 8/1 but then don't cut the price? I thought they were supposed to play the market not the punter?

When will these boys learn we cant win all the time so by restricting us they cant win some money back. Totally against the rules of betting, its a too and fro movement. The gaulling thing is my account is hardly bursting at the seams.
Report siralex August 18, 2015 12:54 PM BST
No disrespect to the doubles thread but a grand up doesn't mean anything. That's basically 5 points up as he is betting on average £200 a bet. Nothing wrong with that but 5 points profit in 22 days to a level stake is a better way of putting it.

Dpm - that's exactly the problem, bookies aren't just restricting big winning punters they are stopping your average man in the street. Unless u r a complete mug which is what they want then u can't just back what u fancy anymore. The only way of getting decent bets on anymore is just before the off.

Onlooker - it's not that the tipsters aren't any good anymore it's that I have to accept that by backing their horses I won't be able to get the prices advertised or the amounts I want to bet on. Without these factors I end up making a loss so have had to change the way I bet. What's wrong with that? I am just trying to make money, surely that's the aim of everyone on here?
Report Big Boss August 18, 2015 1:47 PM BST

any body who bets with street bookies is stupid full stop.
you back a horse with a street bookie and get 5-1 for 10 pound ok , he puts it on betfair at around 7-1 on average so street bookie makes 20 profit if your horse wins.
So if every street bookie puts every bet he takes off the street punter and puts on betfair he will make a profit no matter what with NO risk EVER

Just watch channel 4 when they interview a racecourse bookie saying he got hit for 6 cos a fav came in. That is total rubbish when you put a bet with racecourse bookie he tells his colleague 10 pound number 6 at 5-2 his mate then types in the bet on the laptop on one of the exchange sites so what ever wins the bookie wins NO RISK
So stick with betfair bigger odds every time. why take 33-1 on the street when you get 80s or more on exchange sites
no brainer and if anyone doesn't understand this they shouldn't be betting and their parents should be informed

Fair enough, but bookmaking with no regard to the identity of the punters he was laying clearly wasn't the way he earned them. He may have come to the conclusion that the race was fixed all by himself, but obviously 99% of people with a view would have reinforced that conspiracy theory.

The draw for the race very much raises eyebrows but the fact was that the 2nd fav was trying for his life, but unfortunately got away slowly, something he had done on previous occasions during his career. The reason I know? I was involved in a thorough pre race discussion on how to win the race which included the jockey himself who was desperate to rain on Murphy's parade.

Stephen had spent his career laying the market, it was how he made his millions. He never had a view but trusted the overround to provide him with a safety net and that he could lay sufficient runners at the right price by waiting for the market to fully form before he went up.

Your point about the unsavoury characters  involved in the Jibereen fiasco is a fair one. The principle character involved was my least favourite individual in all my time on course.

I think Stephen could have recovered from that particular setback. THEY cant fix every event!

However, like you and myself he must have concluded that the best days on course were being eroded by the influence of the exchanges and that it was better to quit whilst still ahead.

And ahead he certainly was.
