i put £4 on a 6\1.....i had a look at cash out just to have a look.........the horse is now 5\1.............i can cash out and lose 57p..........i had no intention of cashing out but how does that work

Cash out, price rush etc are all there to make the bookmaker money.
they take about 10% cut for laying your bet on the exchange for you
Ive found that Betfair cashout offers are pretty good compare to say WH, the offers there are just pure ripoff,you get about half as much as you could laying on exchange.
