Today's guesses:

Skiddaw Valleys, 1pt EW, 4.45 Carlisle

Shaped OK in 2 of his 3 qualifying runs in maidens, 2nd to Brotherly Company (who was probably unlucky not to at least place on his latest start in a valuable Musselburgh handicap)on debut, and on his 3rd run when better than the bare result (not clear run, otherwise might have finished second).

He was disappointing on his handicap debut in a slightly higher grade than today's and has quickly been dropped 3lb, also he shaped in his maidens as though he may be better over 12f, so today's trip of 9.5f is a concern. However, given his relatively unexposed profile, going to take a chance here at big odds, receiving the 10lb weight for age allowance from his elders.

Currently trading at 38 and generally a 33-1 poke

Danny O'Ruairc, 1pt EW, 3.35 Carlisle

Caught the eye in a couple of his qualifying runs but has offered little since, albeit he has faced a couple of unrealistic assignments; now 16lb below his opening mark and tentative signs on his latest start at Hamilton that he was about to show more until running into trouble up the rail.

Plenty to prove and he is eligible for weaker races than this, but given a speculative vote in the hope that latest run was an indication of better to come.
