He'd probably have kept the race if he'd managed to win though. The rules are wrong.

Dwyer riding Stepper Point after the line to catch up with Murphy Grin Must be a riding offense?
Report flatcap July 4, 2015 2:10 PM BST
Got to be disqualified and placed last surely. Dangerous / reckless riding.

There should be long bans for jockeys that cause any interference in a finish.  They will never do that because the likes of Hughes threw the toys out of the pram over whip offences.

Report argosy July 4, 2015 2:25 PM BST
What race were you watching? The French jock had the whip in the wrong hand and mullahed them both.

That was quite disgraceful from Murphy. Deserves every day of the ban.

ace 2 - 2:00pm THE CORAL CHARGE (CLASS 1) (Registered as The Sprint Stakes) (Group 3)
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference in the last half furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that WIND FIRE (USA), placed second, ridden by Oisin Murphy, had forced her way between STEPPER POINT, placed fourth, ridden by Martin Dwyer, and SPIRIT QUARTZ (IRE), placed third, ridden by Antoine Hamelin, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced and also causing further interference to STEPPER POINT, which was then short of room against the rail, causing Martin Dwyer to have to snatch up. They ordered the placings to remain unaltered as at the time of the incident the Stewards could not be satisfied that WIND FIRE (USA) had improved her placing over STEPPER POINT and SPIRIT QUARTZ (IRE) as the filly was travelling well and quickened away to finish two lengths ahead of the third and a further neck to the fourth. They suspended Murphy for nine days as follows: Saturday 18, Sunday 19, Monday 20, Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22, Thursday 23, Friday 24, Saturday 25, and Sunday 26 July 2015.

I know his mount was hampered but it was way after that incident when he 'took it easy' - I hope a few of you watch it again as I have because I thought it looked iffy.
Report Howellsy July 5, 2015 9:10 AM BST
Can understand why Murphy did it - rode the right race, had lots of horse under him but could see it getting away from him - one of the few chances he's had this season of riding a big winner. Tough game. But unjustifiable all the same.

I agree with the  ban,the gap was never there but I also feel the French jock should have received the same ban.He never tried to correct his horse from drifting or changing his whip hand & he was equally to blame as Oisin.
Report Hushwing. July 5, 2015 1:57 PM BST
look at Ryan Moore in the gold cup , he'll regret not barging out ? the rules and win at all costs mentality will cause an accident in these big races . its crazy the rules as they are.
these owners want  jockeys to accept a holiday if needed to win a big prize. Jockeys like Spencer on Gatsby , who waited for a gap that didnt appear in time, are slated and well cost connections a group 1 win.

oisin wouldve been lambasted for sitting n waiting , by punters and perhaps even connections

Cider - c'est cidre...or at least that's my excuse for that juiced-up, pocket-talking 2am post Blush

Seriously though...he DID give up on the frame despite the attempt to remove him from the race - 10/1, 9/1 & 7/1 places in a patent (all at 1/4) would've got me a few quid if he hadn't snatched himself up, so there's justifiable indignation in these parts! Sad
Report ima_mazed66 July 5, 2015 6:50 PM BST
Ironic that earlier in the week at Haydock on Goodby Inheritence, Timmy Murphy lost a race because he stuck to the rules and didn't barge his way out of a pocket and got plenty of stick on here as a result of that loss.
Report Cider July 5, 2015 7:41 PM BST
He was virtually put on the floor and just swerved a hospital visit by the skin of his teeth. Momentarily it would have been a mixture of shock and relief, never mind the horse being off balance. I doubt riding out for the place was uppermost in his mind at the time!
Report ima_mazed66 July 6, 2015 2:06 PM BST
How can the stewards conclude that Murphy's horse:

"had forced her way between STEPPER POINT, placed fourth, ridden by Martin Dwyer, and SPIRIT QUARTZ (IRE), placed third, ridden by Antoine Hamelin, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced and also causing further interference to STEPPER POINT, which was then short of room against the rail, causing Martin Dwyer to have to snatch up."

but let the places remain because:

"They ordered the placings to remain unaltered as at the time of the incident the Stewards could not be satisfied that WIND FIRE (USA) had improved her placing"

Of course it improved her placing as it would be irrelevant how well she was travelling if the jockey stuck to the rules and couldn't get out.

Agree 100%, though how did they find the riding carless not reckless and dangerous?

The real question is how much did the stewards have on the second each way?

The rules are wrong and I think that is what Gosden is talking about, but instead makes a point about Kirby (I thinks he had a big bet on Eagle Top). If he rightly highlights this sort of thing he looks very smart.
Report ima_mazed66 July 7, 2015 4:03 PM BST
The current rules have for a long time now encouraged jockeys to break the rules and especially in the big races where they are happy to take the ban as long as they keep the race and their share of prize money too and it's been going on for ages now.

In what some might see as quite ironic, one of the times I felt most robbed in racing was when Fallon won the Queen Anne on Ad Valorem and I had backed Court Masterpiece who got absolutely murdered (along with Peeress) when looking to come and win the race, with Fallon getting banned but keeping the race.

If they ban the jockey then they aren't doing it for nothing and so they must have done something wrong.
