I saw Brigadier Gerard win it's first race at Newbury and said this is the biz I am going to back it to win the 2,000gns
I go into the my local betting shop and ask for a price, I am told there are no prices for the race yet.
I am given the word that Minsky is the horse I should be backing for the the race so my money starts to go on the horse that I have been told is greatest horse ever to run on a race course.
In the back of my mind I am thinking of what I had seen Brigadier Gerard do at Newbury and I had better have a little bit on just in case.
I was working on the shaft in the casino and the pit boss who also like a bet came down from watching the race, I ask who won he said something called captain agggggggggggggggg
If Henry Copper had been in the casino at the time I think I would have asked him to hit me.

I remember the hype surrounding MINSKY - to whom I had taken a dislike, as I felt that they were trying to trade off the name of the recent success of Nijinsky.
How Minsky could be 'the second coming' - having been beaten by 25/1 shot Linden Tree in the Observer Gold Cup (now Racing Post Trophy) - whilst Brigadier Gerard had hammered Mummy's Pet and Swing Easy, with Fireside Chat fourth, in the Middle Park - did not balance out.
True, Minsky had previously won the Railway Stakes - but was 2 from 4 as a juvenile, whereas Brigadier Gerrard was 4 from 4 - having equally easily won the Washington Singer, at Newbury.
Quite how Brgadier Gerard started at 100/7 outsider of 5 - when making a 5 length winning debut in the Berkshire Stakes at Newbury remains one of racing's greatest mysteries.
The runner-up, Maisy Dotes, had previously won at Redcar, Pontefract, and earlier at Bath, along with two defeats.
Whereas, the 8/15, Piggott ridden, Fav, Young And Foolish, had been runner-up to Lush Park in the **** of the North Stakes at Haydock - having earlier won the 23-runner Blue Peter Stakes (for 2-y-olds that had never run) at Newmarket on it's debut.

PS: - You must have had a lump on MINSKY - seaside -

You are spot on Onlooker that is what I got me in.
Are you sure there was only five runners for his first race ?
Was it his second race at Newbury with a lot more runners ? as I thought there was a number or runners in the race that made me think he was a really good horse.
