i had big money on mediciean man in the kings stand stakes at royal ascot just gone. avg. odds of 103/1. no doubt most of you know the result, he was headed on the post. needless to say I needed a bucket.

well a few years back frankie was on a  godolphin horse and the second string he ignored had just broke a track record lto i had 50 on blue KSAR and it won well !

my worst loss was domedriver i wanted to take the 26-1 pmu for the breeders cup mile . with 200 squids i walked upto my local pub to pick up the car i had bought the previous day and deposited in the car park on the grounds of being pissed . car had a flat battery wouldnt go .walked back home to get a jumpstart and theres 20 people milling around the house . are you coming go-karting at chester its xs birthday yes  but can i get a bookies before we get there ok if we pass one but well be back before 5.30 anyhow . no bookies on the way got back late tried to place bet on internet too late it had already won missed out on 5k

1985 - Started backing MR SNUGFIT for the Grand National in January, at 25/1.
Backed it a further 6  times, over the next couple of months  at odds from 20/1 downwards.

In the race - It led coming to the elbow, on the run-in.
I turned to my father and said - "I've backed this to win thousands"
A few seconds later, he replied - "It hasn't won it yet."
I turned back to the race to see Last Suspect passing it around 50 yards from home.

Last Suspect only ran as an afterthought - because owner, Anne Duchess of Westminster's more favoured horse got injured.
Last Suspect's trainer did  not want it to run, either -
- only the jockey, who would have been without a ride, talked them into it.

I have NOT had a bet in the National since - nor I ever will.

You started a thread on here, last night - bemoaning the fact that there are not enough analytical threads on the Forum - to seriously discuss horse races and, "exchange thoughts."

Yet - on this thread - You are going, "go-karting at chester," as, "its xs birthday," - and treating Horse racing as... "most races i look at for fun." - and being, "entertained."

You sound like something of a daydreamer, to me.

I backed Ksar in that Derby, I don't recall him finishing fourth. I thought he finished mid-field?

So why haven't you had a bet in it since Onlooker? Surely not because you thought you'd won, but didn't? Christ, using that logic we'd all be crossing races off left right and centre everyday - I'm struggling to see the point of your boycott, either from a betting or logical point of view!

Just saw the 1973 Derby on youtube, Ksar did finish fourth. Memory playing tricks on me - not for the first time!

hmm just take a look through the day youll see ive offered my opinions given analysis of the races i felt suitable to bet on wished others who didnt agree best of luck and taken the results on the chin having 4 seconds and 3 thirds and 1 unplaced . im not saying nobody is allowed to lament i was saying there was a  lack of thoughtful opinion i stated mine and some others did to . your being silly

Seem to recall Ksar as being a miler rather than a middle distance horse, great Derby that was though, Roberto, Rheingold and think Pentland Firth was 3rd about 50/1, quite a price as it had been Ante post favourite about 6/1 during the winter.

lastly "onlooker" yes you have been entertained  in this game for the last 40 years . your entertained by the form study , your entertained at the anticipation, if your a bookie your entertained by your liabilities , whom is backing em etc who are you taking on  , your thrilled at the emotion of winning or losing , you enjoy talking racing , you like the halcyonic days . you live racing , racing is you .you are racing  .mr christopher livingstone eubank  proffesed to hate his game when he actually loved it. despite the iddiosyncracies  if you werent entertained  you would not be in it for 40 years. you are entertained and you love it ( except when you lose )

Perhaps you should substitute the word, or phrase, "been entertained," - with ... Interested.

i done a place pot at chelt once my only bet i had once horse in the 1st race it was 4 len clear at the last, jumped its front legs slid away from it came down in the supreme novices hurdle i had the rest up 2 placed in 2 races for fivers i wd have got a 20 quid place pot and thats  when it did not go into the tote pot , the manager said that was so unlucky m8 but am not wanting to make u feel any worse , i said what do u mean , he said 84 % of the tickets went through on the fav , in the 1st race it was 3rd !
in other wards if mines had stood up it was un placed , i wd have easily been a monster payout horse won its next 2 races if i rem

Ksar proved to be a 10f horse. He did win the Derby trial at Lingfield (at 8-13), but it wasn't a strong field, and all his pattern race wins were at 10f, including the Brigadier Gerard at 4. He was also 2nd in the Eclipse as a 4yo, and chased home Allez France in the Prix d'Harcourt. He had also won the Classic Trial (10f) on his 3yo debut on Whitbread day, held at Kempton because Sandown was out of action. The Whitbread itself was held at Newcastle that day, and it was in that race that Doug Barrott took a fall from which he died.

About 15 years ago the National Lottery brought out a game called Easy Play, it was similar to the football pools but your matches were randomly selected by a machine. The idea was to match as many draws as possible. The 1st few weeks of it they subsidised the jaclpot to £2 million. I had 7 draws with only Celtic (who were on my ticket) still playing in injury time at 0-0, Craid Burley scored with the last kick of the game. I phoned up to say I had 7 draws & the women said "Oh you've won the Jackpot we'll call you back at 7pm & let you know how much you've won, it was 5 o'clock, those 2 hours were horrendous!! at 7 the phine went & they said "you're sharing £2 million with around 4000 people you'll get about £5000". A nice touch to be sure, but I've often wondered what might have been had Burley not notched late on.

When I handed the ticket in at the Post office a couple of days later the look on the cashiers face was worth the £1,995,000.
