You should all get down on your knees and thank Tony for not putting the UK in the Euro.

Very true, instead he decided to put us in Iraq.Crazy

You were not alone there, Iraq was a coalition of the willing (pushed, shoved, cajoled, poked with a stick etc) where you along with France, Australia etc were led astray by a Bush.

The West's pre-occupation with getting rid of Middle East dictators was a massive mistake. If we'd left Saddam-Hussein, Gadaffi etal in power the Middle East wouldn't be in it's current volcanic state.

I'm sure there are those who would say these people were tyrants who ruled by fear, but, look where we are now.

No one told Bush he needed to have something better to offer before upsetting the status quo!

I think you will find it was Thatcher who did not put the UK in the euro. She actually forecasted exactly what is happening today!

It was Gordon Brown advised by Ed Balls who decided against joining the single currency,it did not exist in Thatchers time in office.

Well not quite, Thatcher was keen  to enter the EMS but during 1990 when Thatcher and then later Major was PM the Conservative Government despite spending over £6 billion were unable to keep the £ within the acceptable EMS exchange limits and in 1992 under Major the £  was effectively devalued after currency speculators (George Soros et al) sold the crap out of it and Major had to negotiate an opt-out from the Euro.

It wasn't until Blair was PM an opportunity to join the EMS again arose in 1997 and it was looked at again, he said that UK would need to pass a number of tests (which were never going to be achievable) to join  the Euro, to placate the French and Germans. Later Gordon Brown ruled it out completely. This has been the UK Government policy ever since and barring a nutter being elected with an overwhelming majority it will never happen.

Now down on your knees and give thanks.

In late October 1990, just before her premiership ended, Mrs Thatcher reacted strongly against Delors' plans for a single currency in the House of Commons; her stance contributed to her downfall a few weeks later.

Blair just jumped onto all thatcher's ideas, nothing more than a common thief, who says crime doesn't pay, what's he worth today about £60 million Cry

The EMS for Politicians was a bit like the Hokey Cokey.... Left leg in... Left leg out... Right leg in.... Right leg out....

I am sure Tony Bliar would have joined but Brown simply would not let him.
The Lib Dems were gung ho to join, probably still are.
