I wonder if, in tennis, there was a similar to-do when the first all-weather surfaces were used?
Now we are one of only a few countries that use grass courts for our top tournaments.

"a similar to do," - in what sense? - PW.

- and why do you ask? - as I seem to remember you were 'around' in October 1989 - when Niklas Angel won the first-ever All-Weather race, on the Equitrack, at Lingfield.

I am a great fan of all-weather racing, tis true.
Maybe racing on grass faces a similar slow death to tennis on grass.
Hope not.
One new turf track: Ffos Las
Turf losses: Hereford, Folkestone, Newcastle (Flat), Wolves, Southwell (Flat), possibly Catterick (Flat).

As in tennis, aw courses are not a like-for-like replacement for turf. As in tennis, each surface suits different players/horses.
