Brilliant appointment by J.P. McManus, surely must know by now that M.P.Walsh simply isn't good enough, he gave him a chance and he wasn't good enough. Will Gigginstown also see the light and boot the hopeless B.Cooper into touch who isn't fit to lace Davy Russells boots. At least McManus will now know when he wants one booted home, he has every chance with Geraghty on board.

Im not J.P.s biggest fan, but I do respect this decision to retain Geraghty. I sincerely hope Gigginstown have the guts to do the same thing as their horses have massively underperformed when Cooper rides them, which is not great for the sport or punters.

I don't mind Cooper but maybe that's because of the rose-tinted spectacles as I've won a few quid on his mounts in the past - do some of you reckon he's lost his bottle after injuries?

I wouldn't blame anyone in that situation...that was a hideous fall he had from Clarcam at Cheletenham last year.
Report Navel-Gazer June 22, 2015 1:55 PM BST
As for Geraghty, he's pushing for a spot in the top half dozen greatest of all time for me...well, 35+ years.

i'v got a feeling we havent seen the last of AP,but geraghty is a good replacement.
Report Clerkmore June 22, 2015 2:07 PM BST
I'm amazed Barry wanted the job. It doesn't say much for the horses Nicky has at present.
Report olddesperado June 22, 2015 2:12 PM BST
Definigtly seen the last of AP as a jockey,

Seen him at ascot and he looks so much more healthy,

I would say he would find it impossible to get to riding weight now that his regime is broken,

His body probably wouldnt allow him to punish it again,

quite a few of jp,s at nicky,s  already and although i dont know the details i would say its a more loose arrangement like walshes was with nichols

"At least McManus will now know when he wants one booted home ..." What does that mean. Surely he wants them all booted home!
Report basilbrush June 22, 2015 2:25 PM BST
Yeah right, all owners and trainers want all their horses winning evry time. Lol

Will O'Neill and Henderson now be looking for stable jockeys? Henderson might feel de Boinville is up to it but McClernon ?
Report Navel-Gazer June 22, 2015 6:51 PM BST
I think McLernon is a half-decent jockey (his booking never deters me) even though he gets slated on here...yes, he's weak in a finish but tactically I think he's OK - that said, he's probably not up to being number one for a powerful stable.
Report salmon spray June 22, 2015 7:09 PM BST
Geraghty if given the choice will presumably stay in Ireland if the McManus rides available are much of a muchness so I imagine O'Neill will want somebody. I'm not keen on McClernon though he's not the worst around. Wasn't Kennedy riding quite a few earlier this year ?

I think he's already there imop. Him and Ruby have been in a league of their own for a while now.

McLernon, Linehan, Kennedy have all let Jonjo down previously, none are any good as jockeys anymore. though his stable havent really fired for quite a while now, maybe Jonjo has given up the ghost in terms of effort training. Jonjo certainly needs a decent jockey, but presumably Geraghty will ride the good ones Jonjo trains for McManus in England.
Report MJK June 22, 2015 7:55 PM BST
It will be unfortunate if Geraghty had to handicap them the way McCoy did.
Report Ramruma June 22, 2015 8:50 PM BST
In which country will Geraghty be based? Is he moving back to Ireland and only flying over for the good ones, or will it be the other way round like AP was?
Report salmon spray June 23, 2015 12:18 AM BST
More likely in Ireland I should think. McManus must have at least as many horses there as in England.

I allways find it sad when the likes of A/P doing quiet ones Sad

AP says in the Times today that wearing the green and gold is the best job in racing. I'd say that being first jockey to Willie Mullins is better!

Would not be surprised to see De Boinville top dog at Hendersons. He is a very good horseman.

JP paid AP a £1 million retainer. Aiui, Ruby and Willie have only a gentleman's agreement. Working out prize-money percentages is left as an exercise for the reader.

He is undoubtedly. But he needs to strengthen up in a finish. Very similar scenario to when Bryan Cooper came on the scene. He hasn't yet unfortunately.
