Think Eddery holds the record for winners at the Royal Ascot meeting which didnt include the Saturday which was known as the Heath meeting,think the record is 8 then for the then 4 days.

FYI - The Long Fellow won the Ascot Gold Cup 11 times
including twice on my fav horse Ardross '81 & '82 (when I got into racing)

Piggott rode 8 in '65 when it was 4 days.

1 Tues, 2 Weds, 4 Thurs, and 1 Fri.

^ on that Ascot Thursday in '65, Piggott was beaten a neck in the 4th race, and didn't have a mount in the first race, so he was almost 5 from 5 on the day.

^only one of the 5 was for his boss, Noel Murless, and that was the one he was beaten on. SPs - 4/7, 6/1, 9/2, 6/1, 6/1.

Perhaps some (short-sighted) others would claim, "modern day," to be when the meeting became 5 days.

For the record, Piggott's 8 winners at the 4-day meeting were for 7 different trainers. He also rode 2 2nds and 3 3rds.

Piggott also rode 8 winners from Tues to Fri in 1975 when it was a 5-day meeting. He rode 1 more at the heath meeting on the Saturday.

Having said that, I hope Piggott keeps the record given the change in circumstances.

TEN2 - yes. Race times almost same as today - first at 2.30, last at 5.30, mainly 35 minute gaps. 24 races over the 4 days.

I wonder how many Royal meeting days he missed due to injury or suspension?
