Yes, there was financial loss after trying to be greedy after a winning day and backing it at 2/5 for a first three place with only seven runners.
Having said that, even as a claimer he should know what hand to put his whip in. If you watch the race again his mind was all over the place as to where he thought which hand the whip should have been in.
