I was standing in the head on stand which made him look even further clear than he was - only downside on the day was the bet I placed on Shergar winning the arc with some of my winnings.

I remember doing the equivalent of A level economics and one of my mates leaving early to have a bet on the Royal Hunt Cup-naturally it lost.
About 2 years later same guy had a factory job while I was a struggling student -every Saturday he would appear at the bookies where we congregated and do a fiver Union Jack and a pound Yankee on 4 complete outsiders on the grounds that it would come up eventually....

You must have different eyesight to everybody else.

Looking at something Head On - most especially a horse race -  surely shortens  the perspective of distance.

Mange I never had fights at school, nobody would take me on but I wasn't like that anyway, after rugby matches I was too battered and bruised to even tie up mt shoelaces the next day My 2 older brothers were both top amateur boxers but I was far too heavy as a teenager to box and didn't have the correct mindset for that game, I liked being a hooker and loved my rugby.

I remember the gym above the Half Moon, can't remember the name of it but it had an Italian name. Was it Mancini's? I used to play guitar most weeks in the Half Moon, lot of the lads would pop in from upstairs.
