Is anyone else having trouble with the Take SP option or is it just me?

Lost out £1,000 on friday as i put a Take SP bet on and went out only to find bet not taken (betfair swore blind that i didnt tick the box !) and I just had £2.90 matched out of the £50 i was asking in the last race.

Betfair should put out a disclaimer saying the SP option only works sometimes !!

which races did you have the problem in specifically?

16.25 Friday & 13.15 Today  - But it has happened at least 4 other times last week or so - I have actually watched it happen twice - doesnt matter much as BF would never admit to a glitch in their platform anyway!!...They did offer me a £20 free bet to make up for the £1000 loss last week though...so can't be all bad !!

Its a fact that if U just leave the page in .....as we all do......small things can happen.....................just to say.........G.L.

@Sirbladement

A couple of thoughts.  If you're seeing this often, might be an idea to screenshot the betslip (which shows the 'take SP' otion on your unmatched bet on both old and new sites)?  That way you have something to show BF if they claim you didn't click the 'take SP' option.

You clearly do this a lot - how do you find it?  I'd have though £1000 appearing in the SP at the last minute would slam the price down a fair bit?

Sirbladement -

Are you absolutely CERTAIN that you RE-SUBMITTED the bet - AFTER selecting 'TAKE SP'

You NEED to do that, every time  ..... Sounds like you may have not.

ive been done by in-play SP not being taken before but only have evidence of when placing a bet very near to the start time (suspend) of a race, think i can recall one time it didn't go through at all, but wasn't recording that race so can't say with 100% certainty that it was the case

feels like betfair are checking for bet updates every few miliseconds but only checking every 5 seconds+ for any changes to the status of a bet- in-play SP/in-play Cancel etc

£1000 can shift the price a few ticks but normally u can expect a similar % depending on how much £ got matched on the individual runner, which we know will be affected from the quality of race and price of that runner, if the horse was an evens shot then you can probably get £1000 matched at sp without any real price change, but you're still better off placing just before it starts because if there's no cash asking for IP-SP from the layers even in 1 race you will get a DREADFUL price.

p.s. if you're curious as a general rule of thumb there's more cash on lay side asking for IP-SP than the back side, how the price of the horse has traded in the last few minutes up to the race start is the biggest factor but what im saying is if you're looking to get a large sum matched for some reason at the BSP then you'll have an easier time on the back side, lay side has more potential to be a nightmare

if the horse was an evens shot then you can probably get £1000 matched at sp if the runner has around £250k(0.0040%)-£300k(0.0033%)+ matched on the favourite alone*
it's not uncommon you even get a price that's better than what it was a second before the suspend
with only £150k(0.0066%) on that 2.0 runner and a £1000 stake you might expect to take a couple ticks loss or be neutral, and if 500k(0.0020%)+ on the runner your £1000 will now be insignificant and have very little influence of the BSP you get

it's a bit pot-luck with higher turnover for the race regarding the BSP you get if you don't have much influence

if you take your BSPs seriously/often and use high stakes i've got a helpful little calculation you can do to give you an idea (still gathering data on this one but this is what i'm going by at the moment)
take the stake size you want matched and divide it by the turnover the individual runner has received and if it's higher than 0.005% then expect to lose a bit of value and get a sh*ttier sp & conversely anything under half a percent is relatively safe (e.g. u want £500 matched at a relatively low quality irish race, lets say we estimate the horse will have ~£110,000 matched at the time it starts then simply 500/110000 = 0.0045% - i'd expect minimal or no real value to be lost here, but twice that at £1000 and it's highly probable you lose 5+ increments of the price)

if you wanted to be prudent i'd say quickly do the calculation and if its above 0.003% then just take whatever price is available before the start as you will start losing value rapidly if you get anywhere near 1% of the turnover on that selection

Just look at the Grand National - we saw shutthefrontdoor drifting from 8s to 14s and as a result stubborn traders who didn't have the stones to take a big loss & had cash sat at 9.0 to 13.5 say and i'd expect almost all of that was taking IP-SP. whereas if anyone wanted a back they would happily have taken 14.0 with a minute or so to go, so due to the little demand for backers taking IP-SP and the supply being MASSIVE on the lay-side of the SP, combined with betfair going down for a couple minutes around post-time we saw some cash get matched at 1000 which is just insane for the BSP and the average sp recorded at a huge 28.1

To put this THREAD into perspective, though.

Doesn't the OP state that he stood to WIN £1000 - and NOT Staked £1,000 at SP..... a BIG DIFFERENCE.

-------------

From what he says - HE only got £2.90 Matched  (out of a £50 Stake) - and the rest supposedly at BSP 'went into the ether'.

As I posted, earlier, above - I strongly suspect that he did NOT RE-SUBMIT his bet AFTER selecting 'Take SP' Option.

It, more than, looks like he was trying to get £50 on a 20/1 shot - and had Put a £50 Back in at 21.0
The horse has hovered at around 19.0 and 20.0- - with it briefly touching 21.0 - and he THEN getting that just £2.90 matched - AT 21.0 -

Before, the horse has then gone back DOWN to 20.0, or Less.

The Race went 'Off' ... He had FAILED to RE-SUBMIT for 'Take SP' ... The £50 Bet (NOW standing at £47.10) becomes [b]'LAPSED'[/b[, and NOT at SP.

That would explain EVERYTHING.
