considering they are trying improve turnover on the sportsbook, the decision to be permanently unders on everything that moves in absolutely any market is unfathomable. If you don't like the jolly they should lay it but its shorter than elsewhere, so they must fancy the field or opposition then but no, also the shortest price in the village. Must have a tie up with Ladbrokes somewhere.

come racing think about this    travel, petrol , £35  to get in   £40 to get out (joke)  £4.50 for a drink  thats a pint ....
go to any bookie  with a decent bet say  £200 plus  you will only  be on if he / she can get bigger on here ..
sit at home   no travel , no exes   and you can have all you want to drink,  no breathleiser ... and you get better prices on here   and to grands .. end of
Report swift-tuttle May 10, 2015 11:43 AM BST
it is still worth going to York - a day's racing is full of interest, some things cannot be measured in hard value terms.
Saw Frankel win at York, will remain in the memory for a long time.
However, if you're just going for a day out on the beer, you may as well go somewhere cheaper.
Report wasnot May 10, 2015 11:43 AM BST
With that logic you would never leave the house!  Why go to a gig when you can watch it later on youtube at home for free?  Why go out to dinner when you can cook the same thing at home cheaper?  Why go to the pub when you can buy drinks from the supermarket much cheaper and drink them at home?

garbage, not buying a pint or some rip off merchandise at a pop concert needn,t spoil your enoyment, for 99% of racegoers having a bet does, you go racing for a bet you dont go to a concert to buy a tee shirt

Have a day out, enjoy watching the horses close up and bet on here. What is the problem? If bookmakers continue to give poor value, they will go out of business.

Report 1st time poster May 10, 2015 12:25 PM BST
the reason bookmakers do it is because they no people wont go elsewhere to bet its a captive audience, doesnt make it right
Report unbiased May 10, 2015 12:47 PM BST
What has been conveniently forgotten is that it wasn't always like this.Naturally bookmakers like adge, and wasnot want to defend their position, and are probably 2 that lay a fair bet,as they are always saying, but in general,it is bad now.
As pointed out by many posters the days of "diving" round the ring, and getting a bit of 10s an 8/1 shot are long gone, because as rightly posted, prices are practically the same everywhere, and bookmakers refusal to change is wrong.
For instance you don't have to go 9/2 the 4/1 chance.or 11/2 the 5/1 chance, you can go 4.2 and 5.2(forget about including stake),and just be a bit different from the crowd, and give the punters something to keep them interested. However,it won't happen,as bookmakers refuse to enter the modern era,and trade in decimals, relying on punters lack of knowing fractions,so they still have to enquire whether 10/3 is better than 7/2,or if 11/10 is better than 5/4.Decimals would help them.
Report adge May 10, 2015 1:31 PM BST

a pint of john smiths smooth will be £4.10p at York

if you can stomach that kind of thing.
Report sageform May 10, 2015 1:58 PM BST
I am puzzled about what ist time poster would like to see happen. If people continue to accept poor value, the bookmakers will not change. If they stop betting in the ring, they will have to. It is a market.
Report 1st time poster May 10, 2015 3:02 PM BST
sageform about time you got with project, the people keeping your game alive on saturdays and the big festivals dont no what or where the ring is, they,ve never heard of betfair, not interested in what constitutes a decent bet,if you were a landlord instead of a bookmaker why would you sell beer at a quid a pint when people are willing to pay 2 quid, theres no reason for bookies to change those using their phones for bog, price boosts, betfair arnt going to bet in the ring anyway,i,m afraid technology has taken the mystique out of racing ,as you say no price difference amongst the books ,no photo betting,no asking for the fractions etc etc
Report sickoflayinwinners May 10, 2015 3:39 PM BST
ist time poster, who says you cant ask for fractions?if someone has the sense to ask me for a fraction bet  I have no reason at all not to lay them.as for photo betting , rarely is there time to put prices up  with todays technology most photos are decided in the blink of an eye.i sometimes lay prices in stewards enqs as well.
Report 1st time poster May 10, 2015 3:47 PM BST

Report sageform May 10, 2015 4:32 PM BST
Just ask for a price and if you don't get what you think is fair, don't bet. Nobody is forced to bet with bookmakers. I don't go racing much these days but when I do, I have 2 rail accounts and usually get SP or better-what they call fair price. If the price shortens from when I place the bet, I get the price struck, if it drifts I get longer. It might not always match Betfair but is usually not far off.
