Was thinking exactly the same thing this morning dunc....blowing a gale yesterday = Good to Soft.....a little rain overnight = Good to Firm.

Really!?
Report geoff m May 6, 2015 11:53 AM BST
48 hour decs hosses entered expecting gd to firm he doesnt want to deplete the card with a boat load of non runners until he gives the give the true going once all paying customers are thro the gate.
Report denathorn May 6, 2015 12:16 PM BST
Bit of a sh1tty move though
Report ph. May 6, 2015 12:48 PM BST
if the ground isn't G/F now then the CoC is lying and has misled trainers, the racegoers and the punting public ( who fund the sport through the levy ). We will see if the winds and sun bake the ground inside a few hours but the going given is for when the plunger was put in the ground. Perhaps he has given an accurate reading? Perhaps he has an agenda?
Report bannahan May 6, 2015 12:49 PM BST
Just can't see how the ground is firmer than yesterdays post rain?
Report bannahan May 6, 2015 12:50 PM BST
Mind you, when the wind is up at Brighton it is invariably howling i suppose.

Perhaps he has an agenda then onlooker? Personally he should be sacked for bringing the sport into disrepute and more importantly misleading punters ( who have jobs and can't follow the racing throughout the day ) and presume they are racing on G/F.

Franny, "Grounds riding very soft today"

Can the groundsman be done for lying?
Report denathorn May 6, 2015 2:18 PM BST
Chester btw
Report ph. May 6, 2015 2:28 PM BST
Chester says g/soft Brighton says g/firm, why would you do the Chester groundsman for lying? Groundsman tend and manipulate the surface as best they can following CoC instructions, they don't issue ground details. Even the CoC gave g/soft so he has soft in the description and doesn't appear to be misleading anybody. I fail to see how firm can accurately be in the Brighton description put out by the CoC, yesterday times said not and it has rained since. Not sure what point you are trying to make denathorn.
Report geoff m May 6, 2015 2:29 PM BST
he would have a point if Franny was riding @ BrightonLaugh
Report denathorn May 6, 2015 2:29 PM BST
Very soft is not good to soft, just sayin
Report stridingedge May 6, 2015 2:31 PM BST
I've seen 3 jocks give different descriptions in the same race before. Laugh

times the only real measure, when it's blowing a gale these may not give the whole story though
Report ph. May 6, 2015 2:32 PM BST
having the word soft in the description is acceptable and interim rainfall has softened it up further. Nobody has looked at the form today at Chester and backed specialist fast ground horses. At Brighton they may have, just saying.
Report TCat May 6, 2015 2:38 PM BST
Last saturday 25/4 at Haydock noticed jockeys covered in mud after second race

Tellwright has been deceiving punters and connections for years and is still in place, the BHA are happy. Punters should never bet on the first at Haydock until assessing the ground ( visually admittedly )themselves but it is preferable to trusting Tellitwrong.

interesting no update on RP after those races, usually get jockey reactions, not a sausage today there.
Report Cork Langer May 6, 2015 2:59 PM BST

ABANDONED GOING CHANGED TO HARD IN PLACES.
Report ph. May 6, 2015 4:05 PM BST
but get the two races run and they don't have to give a refund to racegoers, perhaps the wind only got up after the second race was run!
Report blackbarn May 6, 2015 4:09 PM BST
PH - 50% Refund for abandonment between Race 1 and Race 3.  No refund only cuts in after 3 races run.
Report ph. May 6, 2015 4:16 PM BST
thx bb, thought it was 2 races constituted a meeting taking place or was that the good old days?
Report blackbarn May 6, 2015 4:18 PM BST
