Having done a bit of research I find that the most expensive horses can perform well at good prices. Does anyone else ever look at sales data on Racing Post?

does a 100k car go faster than a 60k car?
Report bannahan May 5, 2015 10:16 PM BST
Not necessarily but he has asked a few questions just as daft.
Report bannahan May 5, 2015 10:17 PM BST
Mind you, he doesn't know the difference between a "hunter" or a "point to point handicap" so your question holds a little more sway.

would have done your coconuts on:

1/ Snaafi Dancer $10.2m in 1983

2/ The green monkey $16m in 2006

Snaafi dancer in real terms still the most expensive ever yearling. So slow never saw a racecourse. Then had infertility problems with just 4 foals in 2 years. None of which where ever good.

Report blackbarn May 6, 2015 12:09 AM BST
LaughLaughLaughLaugh  Do you know I could have written that post for you. For the avoidance of doubt, I was not RIGHT and need no "well done". As you know very well, I was merely questioning your certainty at writing her off.
Report rmccarthy16 May 6, 2015 12:12 AM BST
Again, do you think she retains the same ability? you said we wouldn't know after one run, fair enough so now she's run better you think we definitely know she has now after two runs?Laugh Pot kettle black springs to mind

Report doantwin2easy May 6, 2015 1:15 AM BST
you don't lump on an unraced based on a sales price mccarthy16.

but you it helps on making assumptions about the opposition sometimes. e.g. the 2 sakhee's secrets in the first at catterick.

every bit of info helps put the pieces together.
Report rmccarthy16 May 6, 2015 1:43 AM BST
I don't go near 2YO maidens, i think that's probably better info

You may as well be pissing in the wind, risking money in such races imo.

why - above average strike rate for favs in this race type

typically 40% as opposed to 34% generally

opposition..purchase price/prices..pedigree..trainer..market support..demeanour..draw (on occasions)..foaling date..all need to be considered with 2yo newcomers..no bet unless perceived edge great enough to take chance on inexperience
Report maleuk01. May 6, 2015 4:29 PM BST
Sir Issac Newton - cost over £3.75m as a yearling.

1st race- lost @ 8/11
2nd race- lost @ 1/6

both maiden races.
Report duncan idaho May 6, 2015 4:41 PM BST
sample of one...that's that then  Cry
Report maleuk01. May 6, 2015 4:44 PM BST
see other horses listed in thread Duncan.

The horse just mentioned was as running today with a huge price tag as a yearling. Beaten in 2 maidens both odds on.
