"What the racing public doesn't like is the perception that a lot of trainers cheat. They cheat so conspicuously that it breeds a cynicism. Certain trainers as soon as they get their hands on a horse have a seemingly magical ability to improve those horses overnight. That of course is the tip off they've got some drug the other guys don't have."

Please take note BHA.

Trouble is that the trainers in the UK use drugs to make them go slower...

The people who should take note of Beyer's quote in the OP (and RP) are the numpty pundits who repeatedly tell us that cheating is due to the handicap system. It's far worse in the US where most races are claimers of one sort or another. What causes cheating is not handicaps, it's money and greed.

I love to be educated and that is why I post..

But to state the obvious why would you cheat in a claimer when you could lose the animal..

It must be better to claim one fill it full of drugs and then sell it on once it has won and you have backed it...

Some of the rides given in the US are simply unreal. One Steve Millar tipped up last night was the worst non jigger i have ever seen. Slow away, let front jocks go clear and made no effort to keep pace, stayed on under hands and heels like a rocket to finish close 2nd..... the 2nd at park race 2

Love what are you doing watching American racing...Love
Report Racingqueen May 5, 2015 9:55 PM BST
The worst part of American racing is the tracks. Imagine all racing being run on southwell surface with Lingfield track layout

Dirt racing is utter filth

At least the commentators in America are honest enough to say "the favorite is not interested in the prize money this afternoon "if it runs poorly ,in the UK the commentators make out that its a big surprise if the fav runs a bad race.LaughLaughLaugh

I Think you will find that at least 5% of Winners at certain American racetracks, Never race again for at least 12 Months, They get A Leg, Bleed etc;
Its staggering Really and I never noticed this until I worked amongst the Staff.

What Beyer is referring to is a completely different form of cheating (use of banned drugs to win races)than occurs here

(non tryers to get handicap rating down).

So what would be for the best would be to stamp out the drugs problem and do away with the handicap system.

Rog if you think that doesnt occur here you are very naive

Allowing jockeys, trainers and owners who have been found guilty of cheating to continue to participate in the sport is significantly more damaging to public perception than anything else imo...

Burke is back training winners, Lynch is riding winners although I'm not sure if they have teamed up yet? No doubt Fenton and Ahern will be welcomed back into the fold.

Whereas as a convicted sex offender gets 10 years on a register, not allowed to work with children and banned from internet use, those who fraudulently steal punters money do not get jailed and are not banned from returning to the environment that caused the criminality. It stinks, it is a bad as mailshots defrauding gullible punters yet the perpetrators get jailed for that. I see no difference, fraud is fraud and to manipulate a market and attempt to permanently deprive punters of their stake is criminal. Not in the eyes of the BHA or British horse racing. Or the gravy train journos who are supposed to enlighten and uncover issues detrimental to the Racing public.

The FOOTBALLER Delroy Facey = got JAILED for 2 and a half years. for simply 'sounding out' a few NON-League players, for a (potential - but not carried out) match fix

He did not even PLAY in any suspect matches - let alone score an Own Goal, or similar.

Compare the BLATANT STOPPING of horses by Jockeys with that sentence -

- and Racing in general - and the BHA -  are entirely TOOTHLESS. Cry

but black people tend to get jailed if found guilty of anything in Court. Being honest the dice are loaded against black people in the judicial system and the bias is endemic. So if Facey had been white he'd have received CS.

Spot on with your post at 12.59 Ph. Stealing from punters seems not to be treated with the same seriousness as other types of fraud. It's clearly a case of people who like to punt being treated as 2nd class citizens and not afforded the same protection that non-gamblers receive.

British racing is complete filth, its only mugs like us lot that keep the whole fraudulent show on the road by continuing to punt on this charade. Any half sensible punter would be betting on the football or other types of sports they have a decent knowledge of. Sadly, most of us have grown up as followers of the sport of kings, so as avid racefans we continue to put up with all the dodgy going ons under jockey club rules. The USA is certainly no worse/benter than the dross we get served up here on a daily basis.
Report ph. May 6, 2015 5:20 PM BST
I don't think the USA is worse, in many ways it is better. Well financially it is, poor grade animals can pay their way via prize money and then getting rid in a claimer. If owners looked at the horses as a commodity and not a precious friend then a chunk of British trainers would be seeking alternative employment. British Racing like British people likes to hold the higher ground, it shouldn't and we shouldn't. There is plenty wrong with here as with other places. It is home so most tend to overlook the issues. Let us not pretend British trainers don't use drugs, fire horses, use bullwhips, lay their own horses and that British Horse racing isn't reliant on off course bookies turning a profit to pay for most of the show through the levy.
