any thoughts?
Report NOW WE KNOW March 16, 2015 4:00 PM GMT
Betfair markets are pretty accurate in my humble experienceGrin
Report dibble March 16, 2015 4:01 PM GMT
indeed... but what would cause that drift? good jockey, horse in form? ok it's a competitive race for the standard but 30-1? if the horse is sound it must be a better chance that that
Report stridingedge March 16, 2015 4:07 PM GMT
would have to know it's legs have been tied together to lay it at this price Laugh
Report NOW WE KNOW March 16, 2015 4:08 PM GMT
Up in grade and 9 for winning a non event. Not badly treated historically but well beaten the last time in a grade 4. Agree that he has more chance than the price but have no betting interest at these prices as unlayable from here just in case and unbackable as the markets are usually right.

Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:18 PM GMT
forecast 7/2 ,,early price 11/2  then drifted during the day to 10/1 then opened at 20/1.Shocked

Broken leg at first,?Sad
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:21 PM GMT
Someone knew that horse was,nt winning imo
Report NOW WE KNOW March 16, 2015 4:24 PM GMT
In hindsight and certainly the market told us that the favourite had a progressive profile and Bathcounty was probably just a moderate horse in a good patch of form at a very low level.

Very hard for connections as you know this can happen but seeing it in front of you must be dreadful.
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:28 PM GMT
Its not the first time we have seen massive drifters go wrong though.
Report NOW WE KNOW March 16, 2015 4:31 PM GMT
Most horses running in Class 5 have problems with the wheels or the head.
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:32 PM GMT
Probably coincidence but it does make you wonder at times.

The vet should be oblidged to inspect all big drifters at the start imo
Report NOW WE KNOW March 16, 2015 4:36 PM GMT
Fair point, trouble is they thought Coneygree was wrong!
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:36 PM GMT
For all the fact he was in a better race upped in the ratings it still would have only taken a couple to run below form or fall and he would have been there or there abouts so to be 30 something on here is strange
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 4:39 PM GMT
For all we know conygree was wrong that day,

A muscle spasm or trapped nerve or something minor that sorted itself before he was home.

If he had been allowed to run that day who knows what would have happened
Report dibble March 16, 2015 5:04 PM GMT
fwiw i know connections of Bathcounty and I can confidently say that none of them thought there was anything wrong with him pre race.

having just spent the last hour in the presence of the owner and his partner you should be in no doubt as to their feelings. it's been a fairly emotional time.

lovely horse, trained by a genuine bloke, who deserved better.
Report olddesperado March 16, 2015 5:36 PM GMT
Yes i can imagine tbh.

Some of the skull duggery that goes on would leave you too cynical at times.

commiserations to all concerned,Sad
