This nutjob of an animal will be out on his feet walking up the hill, his backers want locking up for their own safety.

His mental issues will be fully exposed by the occasion, and the limit of his class will be seen by all, he will be lucky to hand on for 3rd.

He wont be the only one of Mullins Clonmel bullys to get found out this week and the countless unimaginative accumulators will be going down faster than Neymar Jr.

Report ima_mazed66 March 10, 2015 1:57 AM GMT
Un De Sceaux is a very good horse and might well hose up but this is a Cheltenham festival race after all and on the level of form it has achieved so far and with these type of rivals he will face, he doesn't deserve to be odds on and there is no value there in my view, no matter how visually impressive he has looked so far.

He still has to come up Cheltenham's hill at the finish and jump the stiff fences without either coming down or making any significant errors and I'm sure he won't get a soft lead and will be taken on, or else too much early use might be made of him and we could see him slightly over-racing from the off if Ruby insists on making it and then that's where the hill might come into play at the business end of the race.

It is interesting that they have taken Vautour out, which I personally think is a "mistake" as such, although that is probably more by design than anything else, although both horses are in different ownership and the jockey and trainer clearly didn't want to have them opposing each other (especially Ruby you would imagine, if he wanted to ride both) but you are supposed to do best by all of your owners and it's not a given that the JLT or RSA is the best race for Vautour.

As current prices stand now you could dutch every other runner in the field against UDS and still (more than) double your money at around evens if one of them wins with 10 running for you and I think I would rather that than only have UDS going for me at odds-on. You could maybe even increase your return by not dutching all 10 others by say dropping the 2 outsiders or have the next 6 in the betting after UDS or whatever.

I'll personally probably take on UDS by dutching Vibrato Valtat, Three Kingdoms and Josses Hill and possibly Clarcam as I think the course might suit better. I'd also far rather back the yard's Douvan in the opener than UDS in the Arkle and you could even dutch the yard's 4 runners in the opener and still make a profit if one of them wins.

having just watched its last 4 runs again i cant see why you calling it a ''nutjob'...
yes it races freely in front and spreadeagles the field from a long way out.
its a very slick jumper and there's no telling how good it is.
i can see it error free being clear at the last and coasting in.
by laying you could look very stupid. it looks a superstar.
Report Glossy March 10, 2015 2:34 AM GMT
I think it's too short to back but those calling it a 'nutjob' are being very unfair IMO. Just a free going sort.
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 March 10, 2015 2:41 AM GMT
What has he beat? Trifolium was just as impressive in the Irish Arkle beating a much better field and only 3.8 seconds slower than UDS on much heavier ground. But he wasnt unbeaten in completed starts and trained by Mullins. There has been numerous impressive winners of the Irish Arkle over the years and I think only 2 have followed up at Cheltenham in the last 30 years.

UDS has been well placed in his career, the Arkle was his first try at a Grade 1 level and it was a Grade 1 in name only, he has been streeting handicappers in Ireland on heavy ground for 2 years.

He has met one legit horse in his career for me and that is the French horse Gemix who is better over further and was giving UDS 7 pounds.

UDS - 15 lengths lead approaching 2 out, 5 lengths clear jumping last, soon ridden and held on gamely

Gemix - snk 2nd 5 lengths 2nd jumping last, ridden and ran on run-in, just failed to get up

Some dreamers think he has earned the right to be 8/11 for an Arkle, 4/7 until recently, and he only has to stand up, they cant see the wood for the 1s.

I accept the opposition isnt the strongest but on paper he is a 7/4 shot at best and when you factor in that he is completely uncontrollable,  untested at the level or on the ground, id be wanting at least 5/2 to even consider him a bet.

If you cant lay this you cant lay anything.
Report Glossy March 10, 2015 2:43 AM GMT
What about Clarcam?
Report oneyallbeenwaiting4 March 10, 2015 2:55 AM GMT
Ask yourself in 2 years time "what about Clarcam" when he is running down the field in some Grade 3 at Down Royal.
Report Glossy March 10, 2015 3:02 AM GMT
Maybe so, but in the here and now; he dished out a good beating to some good horses. Even if Vautour was wrong that day, he beat a very good handicapper in Ted Veale by a wide margin. No mug IMO.

Josses Hill at 12/1 with money back if fav wins. This ran a decent race behind Vautour last year. The bigger field will suit, placed in all it races and with Geraghty on board. Fav will only lose if falling, prefer my bet to a place lay which is very negative.

Report salmon spray March 10, 2015 2:52 PM GMT
Full bank means nothing.
We are supposed to assume the backer/layer will be skint if his bet loses, but even if he has put everything he has in Betfair at the moment on it it might be 0.001% of what he's worth. After all a lat of Un De Sceaux might only have given him an exposure of £1.50 so his full bank need only have been £2.
Report BJT March 10, 2015 3:04 PM GMT

Missing that commission is taken out.  At least it is on my screen.

Either way, 19000 laid, at 1.79 is 15010 liability.  To get 15,000 exactly, would be a lay at 1.7894736842105263

So if he managed to manipulate his bet to get those odds, to match all those zeros up, then fair play to him.  Love

Of course, if he is paying 2% commission, which somebody putting bets of that size on would be, then to get the 19,000.00 exactly, would need to lay 19380 at 1.7739938080495356.  Another monumental effort.

Commission is most definitely taken out on my P/L on the BF race screen.
