For a moment there I warmed to him. He has suggested that benefit claimants could be made to pick up litter after six months - and he's perfectly right of course. Bloody layabouts, that will teach them not to actively seek work, although I'm pleased to say that I wouldn't have to encounter them as my part of London is immaculate.

The Guardian also reports that they have encountered a video where Farage is in full support of a privatised NHS which is completely at odds with his current manifesto claiming to be fully behind a state health service.

So in summary, he's clearly not to be trusted and sadly I'm certain there'll be plenty of bigots blindly following him - but he does have the occasional good idea in him.

I in no way support UKIP but I think there is a strong argument for some sort of work to be done for the long term unemployed.

It would call it "Community Development", it would just be 4 hours per day (5 days) a week and would involve, clearing up community areas, tidy elderly peoples gardens and properties, removing graffiti, assisting at feedbacks or charity shops, etc.

It is not the work they do, it is just to get them in the mindset of getting up each day and contributing.  4 hours still gives plenty of time for job seeking and application.

I really believe that if I had not worked for 6 months, I would be going crazy and would welcome the activities and camaraderie of working with others... but perhaps that is just me.

Farage is reiterating tory policies of the 1980s;in those days they had a YOPS scheme whereby the unemployed youth carried out community projects such as picking up litter and weeding the church graveyard. This sort of work benefits everyone and only God knows why it was ever disbanded. I'm looking forward to Farage's next announcement which i expect will bring back the 'short sharp shock' treatment for young criminals.Clearly Ukip and Scottish Nationalists will  be the biggest minority parties at Westminster next May which i expect will end up with a tory/Ukip coalition.

Then they would be allowed another 3 months of free money and once again at deadline day they would be entitled to 50 free lashes. Truth is, they WANT to be kept! Nobody will convince me otherwise!  They even refer to their handouts as "Wages!" The former chief secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne, has reignited criticism of Labour's stewardship of the economy with a note for his successor which said "there's no money left".

Laws told reporters: "When I arrived at my desk on the very first day as chief secretary, I found a letter from the previous chief secretary to give me some advice, I assumed, on how I conduct myself over the months ahead.

"Unfortunately, when I opened it, it was a one-sentence letter which simply said: 'Dear chief secretary, I'm afraid to tell you there's no money left,' which was honest but slightly less helpful advice than I had been expecting."

The Low Wage economy is a Tory dreamland for them. Their supporters who own firms that employ these low wage earners are supported by the Tax Credit system to acquire cheap labour. If not local then bussed in from Eastern Europe to fill the gaps. Housing Benefit similarly lines the pockets of Tory landlords and encourages high rents.

The solution would be decent wages for all and rent caps, which they have in USA the home of the Free Economy.

Shirly picking up  litter IS A JOB....6 months on the dole=no job=.....Then pick up litter FOR A WAGE...Full time.

(Plenty of TRASH in London).

Street sweepers are ditching their brooms for state-of-the-art ‘vacuum cleaners’.

The three-wheeled machines, which cost £13,000 each, are already being used on the streets of Worthing.

The gadgets, called Gluttons, are estimated to be four times more productive than manual sweeping.

They are petrol-powered but started by a battery meaning they are also quiet.

The manufacturer claims the Glutton is no louder than 68 decibels, about the same as a domestic vacuum cleaner.

Worthing Borough Council drafted them in as part of its bid to keep the town tidy.

They are especially useful in cleaning hard to reach areas such as behind benches and under hedges.

Waste is collected in the machine's 240-litre tank from where it can be dumped into bins or a larger collection vehicle.

Councillor Bryan (CORR) Turner, cabinet member for a clean and green environment, said: “Street sweepers have certainly come a long way from their 'turn of the last century' roots.

“They look unusual and certainly don't look like the usual sweeper on the street.

“It makes sense for us to invest £26,000 in these sweepers as we like to keep the town centre as clean as possible for our visitors and businesses alike.

“But the public must play their part too. If they didn't dump the litter, we wouldn't have to pick up after them.

“We don't like to prosecute litter droppers but instead try to prevent people from littering in the first place through our education programme.”

The Gluttons are the latest addition to the town's litter-busting tactics, which includes more than 500 bins and 300 dog mess bins across the town.

Not cheap cleaning up betting slips.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that this forum is no a site based on pure Capitalist principles..

Betting on here should require you to be single minded and above all greedy.

However the usual left wing bigots come on and have a pop at the successful and defend the lazy and feckless..

Do any of them bet or do they just infiltrate forums Worldwide with their nonsense.Confused

Thin and Crispy wants the birch reintroduced...well so do I.
I'd also propose the State should only pay benefits to the workshy in return for them agreeing to be sterilised or undergo a vasectomy.Whilst some liberals might not embrace this idea straight away if they stop to think about it the result would do away with the dregs of society within a generation ...so what's not to like.
