Why shouldn't they pick up litter. They are leeches on this country, too lazy to get out of bed and do a days work, they just ponce off people who are prepared to work. Stop their benefits and they would soon get a job

The unemployed aren't too embarrassed or feel degraded picking up their benefits do they, so why is it degrading to DO SOMETHING for their money?

Miliband should be put in Broadmoor. Balls, Cooper and the rest to.
Farage talks the talk as did Clegg before the last election. That's when all the promises they knew they couldn't keep came back to haunt them. They talk bolx. Country is on the way back now. Ask the rest of Europe. Why? Reality is the Tories are streets ahead of the others. Thirteen years of an incompetent bunch of clowns headed by Blair and Brown. What makes you Labour voters think idiotic Miliband can do better? Oh yes, you have always voted Labour, your parents, grandparents............... .....    zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Please don't bother replying if you are going to start talking about the Tories only bothering about the rich. That old chestnut has done the rounds too often and is utter bull****. Good night all. I have to get some sleep now as I have to work tomorrow. I must remember to rev my car engine when driving through the predominantly Labour voter occupied estate on my way to work. They need waking up to watch Jeremy Kyle. Then again ,they will probably   still be asleep when I am doing my return journey!!!

Yep EVILROYSLADE, can always tell the class of the people you deal with by how they vote.
Labour --- workshy, layabouts, council dwellers and not very bright.
Tory ----- Good looking, great manners, impeccable breeding, hard working and smart.

Back to the original point....  Why is it unacceptable to expect someone on long term unemployment (who is more than capable of work), to contribute 20 hours of their time a week to their community in exchange for their benefits?

I am not sure who loses in this situation?

I would not want a claimant to come near me, or my litter.

That's surely the point Deano, people were more self reliant fifty years ago !

The fact we bring in migrant labour to do ''menial'' jobs because we have a percentage of the population who, with government cart blanche consciously ''play the system'' is utterly ridiculous !

But, I'm also for the ''living wage'' & affordable rents, which should imvho be capped !

People on benefits think it is their right to receive. In  cases where someone has worked and contributed, then that is certainly their right. Others who treat the system with contempt and constantly bleat about their plight should be made to work in one way or another. If that means cleaning up graffiti or picking up litter then so be it. Truth is, they WANT to be kept! Nobody will convince me otherwise!  They even refer to their handouts as "Wages!" Vote for a Labour government and you will certainly have those lazy bstds cheering and whooping with delight. The UK has clawed its way back from the brink. Don't allow yourselves to be duped with the promise of great times for all under Miliband and his tribe of clowns. They will undoubtedly wreck any chance we have of a continued climb out of the abyss. To all prospective Labour voters I ask one thing. Convince me in any way that a Labour vote is anything other than an ante TORY vote! Tell me what Ed and his band of imbeciles will do for the UK that will benefit anyone in the long run. I might suggest you have more chance of forecasting next years Cheltenham Festival results in full!

Question to  posters who object to those who are reliant on taxpayers money to fund their lifestyle by being obliged to pick up litter and weeding the graveyards. What should the unemployed do to contribute to society ?

Oh my god, I must be getting old.   Always have been left wing and Labour voter and now on this thread, I am agreeing to...

* reduce welfare state for long term unemployed
* introduce short, sharp shock for youth offenders (certainly beats the badge of hour ASBO!)

While we are on it, lets bring back national service

'I might suggest you have more chance of forecasting next years Cheltenham Festival results in full'.

Yes Roy, that's what we should be discussing on this forum.

You are entitled to your opinion on the political front, I'm sure there will be many agree with you and similarly many will disagree with you. When I vote in May I certainly won't be reviewing the Betfair racing forum to help me decide where to put my cross.

Yes Posy and EVILROYSLADE, whilst we are on a roll, benefits should not be paid in cash but a voucher than can be exchanged for a weekly food parcel at any supermarket.

It will only contain healthy food (no turkey twislers) and stop them spvcking their cash up the wall.   If they want to eat McDonalds, etc they will need to get a job.

Another incentive to get them off benefits and also solves the obesity crisis as wellLaugh

Let's also have their electricity and gas cut off between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm so they won't be able to lounge around at home watching Jeremy Kyle. Might force a few of them down to the Job Centre.

Correct Sward. Benefits should not fund a booze and **** bill. Nor should it pay for Sky TV and the latest IPhone contract. Saw enough watching that Benefits Street shambles on TV. Sat there, effing and blinding, cursing the state that keeps them whilst guzzling their Special Brew!!!

Excellent example of the British psyche. We've been raped and robbed by politicians and bankers for ever and the country is in massive debt for decades due to these people.
How shall we make the country viable again? Make dossers pick litter up, rofl.

Agreed saddo,

Politics is infested in all parties by some particularly horrible people.

Now let get back to discussing horse racing, oh, just a thought so is racing.Mischief
