They are blaming increased regulation including higher gaming machine duty which will impact on profitability and are apparently closing another 40 shops

Corporate mentality is that it's still 1977 and all that matters is the size of their estate.
Worst prices on everything. Worst special offers. Will not lay a bet. Hopelessly uncompetitive. And then they wonder why their market share is going down the plughole. |

Mickey Mouse has a Richard Glynn wristwatch

@23nights -- quite possibly.
Bookies have been deliberately trying to get people off racing and out of the shops or onto FOBTs. To the extent they have succeeded, they might have a problem if the government ever bans FOBTs. Luckily for them, the government is spineless and so will the next one be. And that is betting without all the shops that were only opened in the first place to get round the limit of four FOBTs per shop. |

1.13 today still no progress from ceo-- keep shutting accts way forward and restricting punters

Close the whole lot... For the first time ever, I agree with this poster. ![]() |

Why do forumites believe that the problems associated with Lads won't affect the other big groups.
Point of consumption tax Possible levy on offshore online Another 5% tax on fobts Increased shop rents just for a start. As times go on life is going to get tougher and tougher for the shops. The results from the independent survey on fobts is due out next month.Nerves jangling!! |

I got an e mail telling me ,my restricted account, is no longer restricted due to a traders decision.
I said,Tell the trader ," I'm betting elsewhere and this is a punters decision , and NO, you cannot speak to me as my decision is final".. ![]() |
|
By:

when you walk in ,you can bet nearly every 3 mins + fobts
the constant commentary on diff bets puts u off the graphics on screens are shocking, doesn't show the whole betting field of race on screen |
|

The ladbrokes shops are often the worst spots, most in need of a makeover and fairly substandard compared to coral now. Only hills has worse looking shops in my opinion, the IT update was a bit of a disaster by all accounts although the online operation aesthetics are slightly improved
|
|
By:
At least they've got the FOBT emptier of the year ( copyright onlooker).
|
|
By:
Boosting their flagging profits by being the only one of the so called big bookmakers not to pay out on today's void "winner".
What a surprise! |

I telephoned my broker today and told him I wanted to buy 10,000 shares.
I expected him to confirm the price and come back to me but he told me, by order of the Board, no one could have more than 10% of what they want and that was subject to a maximum of 100 shares. ![]() No wonder the ship is sinking! |

How can a Sports betting firm be taken seriously when its long-running advertising campaign features characters with the names Gut Truster, The Professor, The Believer, Generous John and Mr Brightside?
|
|
By:
An absolute shambles and yet one of theirs i.e the rancid Nick Rust is suddenly in charge of the BHB...
Knowing him I would not let him be in charge of the stables at Aintree... |
|
