Report mmmalushka October 9, 2014 10:39 PM BST
My experience has been the books that have always bet to traditional ew terms are usually the ones who normally bet to lower percentages but much higher volumes.Advertise here!

mmmma - you are surely mistaken

I can't think why anyone would want to be ultra competitive on the win prices & still offer 1/4 4 places

Still who knows, there's one born every minute . . .

no , I'm not at York , johnny , and Newmarket tomorrow betting 1/4 1234 on TWO races

mind you the last time down there the silver Cambridgeshire had 24 runners and when I priced up at 1/4 the computer showed that I was betting to 97% on the places..and that was just the opening show...all shows how pointless it all is.
Report adge October 10, 2014 12:12 PM BST
just been looking at the exchange win and place markets..can't get 1/4 odds on ANY runner , in fact a number are worse than 1/5th..poor value there too eh maam
Report Prophet or Doom October 10, 2014 1:00 PM BST
The problem the on-course bookies face is that a punter at the races will instead of having his £50 each way 1/5 odds with the on course bookmaker will have a few taps on his smart phone and get the bet at 1/4 the odds a place with an online firm. He may also get BOG and double result concessions too.
Report adge October 10, 2014 1:06 PM BST
no problem with that as long as he's happy with 12/1 instead of the 14/1 in front of him with the course books.
plenty of mid week punters do check with exchange prices on favs before betting with course bookmakers too btw
Report mmmalushka October 10, 2014 1:10 PM BST
How many times do I  have to explain this adge, you cant compare ew betting with place only betting.Betting into a 98%-102% under/overround market is never poor value.
Report adge October 10, 2014 1:36 PM BST
which answers your own question , you , for whatever reason think that course books should bet to 88 to 90% on places when the exchange doesn't. you want it both ways .
and before you reply that it's two separate markets , yes , we do bet place only
Report democrat October 10, 2014 1:42 PM BST

perfectly true , unbiased , but at the same time not as strongly so as we didn't have to compete with exchanges as well as we do now

No sane person would expect oncourse bookmakers to match exchange prices on every runner, and bet to 0%,at the same time bookmakers shouldn't keep banging on about the place market on BF,as it is a separate market, and you don't have to bet e.w.,in order to secure a place bet.
This silly argument appears to be neverending.Bookmakers oncourse have it tougher than ever, and it will probably get worse still, betting has changed irreversably.
