That was a terrific Dewhurst field north berwick. Romeo Romani! A blast from the past. Ryan Price trained and I think ran in the colours of Danny Schwartz of Solinus fame.

Another great trainer in the same mould as Jeremy Hindley was Jeremy Tree. He really knew the time of day when the money was down.

I just remembered that one of Mrs Pennys main adversaries was Abeer, who was trained by Jeremy Tree.

Them colours, Pink, Black and White stripped sleeves were carried by many great horses over the years, a lot of which were trained by Tree.

Jeremy Tree had a great miler that raced against Rousillon. I cant remember his name but i think they both had a tremendous turn of foot. Any ideas MM ?

Some of these American owners have got mind boggling amounts of money. Jock Whitney already mentioned. George Strawbridge is another one. Fascinating reading about them.

Think it probably was Dan Prenn,Mighty Mac.It was the second year I started betting and I bought the Timeform 50 to follow book.I thought I'd found the Holy Grail--winners everywhere including Buttress,Expansive,Pipedreamer,Buz Kashi(33/1 disq.)at Royal Ascot alone.I think Vincent was in that edition.I seem to recall that he won his maiden at the Newmarket July meeting and I won quite a few pounds on him(although I may be wrong)-I remember him "making rapid late headway" on the"blower".I remember Dan Prenn having some cracking horses with John Dunlop as well,Beau Reef springs to mind.It all seemed so much easier then-find a J L Dunlop improver with Carson or Eddery up and just follow it.

Loved Daniel Prenn`s horses lead on. Black, Green hooped sleeves and cap. Most of his runners were trained by John Winter.
Remember Buz Khazi slaughtering a good field by 9l at Royal Ascot and getting disq. as you state above. Would never get disq. now. |

A great Dunlop improver from that era was Sea Chimes. Could front run and accelerate at the end.

whenever the name j.tree comes up i always think of that great sprinter SHARPO i loved that horse but it needed very soft or heavy ground happy days

Your right Lead on. It was a chestnut. Talking about Lester, what a jockey he was on an improver. His riding on House Guard To run up a sequence of wins was jockeyship at its best. With all respect the jockeys riding now who often employ hold up tactics are not fit to lace his boots.

Old Etonian Jeremy Tree was an autocratic trainer who attracted some of the wealthiest owners from around the world.
Despite his superior demeanour, he was a decent person whom his staff respected as a proper professional He was dealt a real super star when Rainbow Quest came along towards the end of his life. Fond memories of the man. |

Kimberley and Willie Ryan had many a battle in the 80s riding Stoute and Cecil horses up north,
used to back Henrys all the time, Kimeberly had a double one day and relieved me of a very large sum of money especially when one of Henrys called Rakaposhi King got collared close home. |

Didnt Proctor ride Minsters Son on his debut as an outsider beating fav and stablemate Unfuwain. Yattendon maiden at Newbury in mid August.

A decade before Minster Son's winning debut Procter did something similar on the Queen's Light O' Battle in the Radley Stakes at Newbury. Carson was on Hern's other horse, the heavily backed Bluebell.
The race was on the BBC and made hilarious viewing as Procter's mount found more than the jockey expected and went past a furious Carson on the favourite. |

Yes - .Fidway - I also remembered that - when Procter was first mentioned earlier in the thread.
In fact - Dick Hern and Proctor used to have a similar winner once a year, for a few seasons- around September(ish) The Urban Myth being - It was the Stable-Lads Christmas present. |
