Very good onlooker. Kimberley was one of those jockeys who one presumes were basically workriders. I don't remember him riding much for anybody but Hindley and he was usually jocked-off the best rides. My fav jockey,Brian Taylor was retained by Hindley, when he ( Taylor ) appeared to be on the decline and I think Kimberley was still around as 2nd jock.

salmon, Tony was a regular rider of Stoute horses and also use to pick up rides for John Winter and Lady Herries amongst others, but is usually associated primarily with the late Jeremy because of the success they shared. My own memory of him was the rapport he had with Crash Course who provided him with probably one of his biggest victories in the Doncaster Cup.

I always thought that he must have been a better 'Work Rider' than jockey.
Then again - I always thought Walter Swinburn was vastly overrated ...
- and Walter's his woefully weak father, Wally - a hundred times worse.

Kimberley and Brian Procter were both apprenticed to Sir Gordon Richards and subsequently became two of the most skilled horsemen in the game.
Brian was attached to the hugely successful Dick Hern in Berkshire, preparing many of the stables' classic and big-race winners during a 20 year period.
His son Tony is currently employed by Sir Michael Stoute at Newmarket while Procter senior lives quietly in Suffolk.
The duo were top quality riders who, although never hitting the headlines a la Lester or Joe Mercer, nevertheless did extremely well out of the game.

Tony Kimberley, a name from the past! Would love to know what happened to him. Remember him with Jeremy Hindley as having several good horses in the 70's such as Swell Fellow, Crash Course, Be Tuneful, Sin Timon etc.As Cork Langer points out he did ride plenty for Stoute afterwards as well and rode a good Aga Khan one for him in Dancing Brave's Arc.

Although it doesn't say anything about his life after his career as a jockey finished, and I can't find any clues by googling.
(..though his last winner on Keswa was at Leicester, not as stated, if you're reading, Shalimah/WHIT).

Three of his horses i remember like yesterday were Moomba Masquerade, Meistersinger And Orojoya. If i remember correctly Meistersinger used to enter a lot of big handicaps but he was too high in the weights and could never win one.

Yes , Tromos was trained by Hobbs , he recorded such good times as 2yo , the late , great punter Alex Bird thought him a certainty for the 2000 Guineas , Alec retired soon after .

Lynch won the Clarence House and the Dewhurst on him. I think they were the only races the horse ever won. he got beat at long odds on in the Craven and the bubble was burst. In the Clarence House, he won by about 12 lengths, and beat a highly regarded 2yo of D1ck Hern's called Milford - and afterwards he got that famous quote of Lynch's where he said that he gave Tromos a kick in the belly and "it all went quiet".

He Loves Me, another Hindley horse worth mentioning. Won the Hungerford though remember him in the earlier stages of his career winning a race and in the process bursting the hype bubble of a Hislop owned half brother to Brigadier Gerard called St Petersburg.

George Cambanis owned Tromos. Black colours with white spots. Stilvi, a good sprinter in her own right, produced some terrific horses when retired to stud. I remember Tromos, Tyranavos and Tachypous but what were the other good uns she produced?

Didn`t realise that Tachypous was her first foal. Tolmi was very good, her sire Great Nephew was also the sire of Grundy. Can`t think of any other very good horses by Great Nephew. Anybody? Is it mere coincidence that she produced nothing of note following her barren year?

Bruce Hobbs won the Grand National at 17 yrs 3 months. An awesome effort. Tyrnavos finished second in the Dewhurst behind Monteverdi. Other runners included Henbit, Romeo Romani, Marathon Gold and Final Straw. The older punters will remember most of those !

That was a terrific Dewhurst field north berwick. Romeo Romani! A blast from the past. Ryan Price trained and I think ran in the colours of Danny Schwartz of Solinus fame.

Speaking of J Tree, whatever happened to the famous Jock Whitney colours, carried by many great horses, including Easter Hero? Are they still registered and if so to whom?

Jeremy Tree had a great miler that raced against Rousillon. I cant remember his name but i think they both had a tremendous turn of foot. Any ideas MM ?

Some of these American owners have got mind boggling amounts of money. Jock Whitney already mentioned. George Strawbridge is another one. Fascinating reading about them.

Think it probably was Dan Prenn,Mighty Mac.It was the second year I started betting and I bought the Timeform 50 to follow book.I thought I'd found the Holy Grail--winners everywhere including Buttress,Expansive,Pipedreamer,Buz Kashi(33/1 disq.)at Royal Ascot alone.I think Vincent was in that edition.I seem to recall that he won his maiden at the Newmarket July meeting and I won quite a few pounds on him(although I may be wrong)-I remember him "making rapid late headway" on the"blower".I remember Dan Prenn having some cracking horses with John Dunlop as well,Beau Reef springs to mind.It all seemed so much easier then-find a J L Dunlop improver with Carson or Eddery up and just follow it.

Loved Daniel Prenn`s horses lead on. Black, Green hooped sleeves and cap. Most of his runners were trained by John Winter.
Remember Buz Khazi slaughtering a good field by 9l at Royal Ascot and getting disq. as you state above. Would never get disq. now.

Your right Lead on. It was a chestnut. Talking about Lester, what a jockey he was on an improver. His riding on House Guard To run up a sequence of wins was jockeyship at its best. With all respect the jockeys riding now who often employ hold up tactics are not fit to lace his boots.

Old Etonian Jeremy Tree was an autocratic trainer who attracted some of the wealthiest owners from around the world.
Despite his superior demeanour, he was a decent person whom his staff respected as a proper professional
He was dealt a real super star when Rainbow Quest came along towards the end of his life. Fond memories of the man.

Kimberley and Willie Ryan had many a battle in the 80s riding Stoute and Cecil horses up north,
used to back Henrys all the time, Kimeberly had a double one day and relieved me of a very large sum of money especially when one of Henrys called Rakaposhi King got collared close home.

A decade before Minster Son's winning debut Procter did something similar on the Queen's Light O' Battle in the Radley Stakes at Newbury. Carson was on Hern's other horse, the heavily backed Bluebell.
The race was on the BBC and made hilarious viewing as Procter's mount found more than the jockey expected and went past a furious Carson on the favourite.

Yes - .Fidway - I also remembered that - when Procter was first mentioned earlier in the thread.
In fact - Dick Hern and Proctor used to have a similar winner once a year, for a few seasons- around September(ish)
The Urban Myth being - It was the Stable-Lads Christmas present.
