May as well cancel pricewise and any tipster column - bookies are ruining the sport.  Im seriously considering quitting betting.  Bookies are passing names amongst themselves - have you noticed when you get banned by one, other bookies follow instantly - coincidence? I think not!
Report bregawn69 August 8, 2014 10:21 PM BST
Just looked at their policy on the Racing Post website.  It was 'revised' two days ago.  What an absolute cop out!  Basically it says that because of "the weather" and the fact that Tom Seagal's tips are available at 8:00pm the night before "it doesn't make much sense to put up out of date prices for a five minute period the following morning".
Report toffee87 August 8, 2014 10:55 PM BST
"it doesn't make much sense to put up out of date prices for a five minute period the following morning".

to be fair, it doesn't

They don't revert any other prices back on any other sports do they ?
Report Big Boss August 8, 2014 11:29 PM BST
If all the other bookies follow PP's new PW guidelines, there will be no point buying the RP in the morning for Seagull's selections, all prices will be gone just after 8pm the night before.

Circulation of the RP will be affected and BM will have shot himself squarely in the foot Laugh
Report hulk23 August 9, 2014 12:04 AM BST
why would you buy it anyway, just pick it up and have a quick look to see what the selections are and put it back ...

What's the point of Power's prices still appearing in the pricewise table?
Report greening August 9, 2014 8:07 AM BST
i know, here are the prices you could have got last night! might as well go 20 the field!
Report hardestgame August 9, 2014 8:13 AM BST
best thing bookies should do
guarantee prices for 5 minutes and dont answer the phones for that time
have shops closed at guarantee time and shut down the WEB SITE

Report adamski August 9, 2014 8:34 AM BST
Why take a chance with horses when you've got FOBT's? And British racing relies on and works hand in hand with these characters for an income Cry
Report Alkeyhole August 9, 2014 8:42 AM BST
RP highly unlikely to slate PP much, they rely on bookie adverts for revenue.

paddy power is by far the best bookie, they lay all the high rollers, and not like the other bookies, the lay large bets, they are by far the biggest and the best when it comes to laying ,and the let you know the bets they strike on tv.it is no big deal for them to lay a 100000(hundred grand)bet and are well use to it when you have JP as a customer .so don't go telling fibs,if you had any dealings with PP you would not be saying the things you say about the firm.and a word called liable comes in to my mind for some reason.Laugh

will not take a bet off me on the phone on anything.

in shop asked for £100 at 5-4 on colin montgomerie to win his 1st round 3 ball in the uspga they rang up i got offered £20

Dukeofpuke, there's always someone on every one of these threads that appears to tell us all we're talking bollox because ****, PP and Bet 365 always take bets off them, without ever stopping for a moment to consider why that might be...

Crazy for a bookie to offer prices after the market has moved. It was a stupid concession only available to mugs.

The best thing that could happen for racing is all the silly concessions are dropped and they go back to forming a proper market and taking proper bets.
Report differentdrum August 9, 2014 10:48 AM BST
Seems a bit of a strange decision. Given the relative lack of success you would think more bookmakers would want to lay the selections and after all it was only for five minutes.
Report Big Boss August 9, 2014 10:49 AM BST
The PP adverts try to put across that they will take on all-comers, come and have a go if you are hard enough, jack the lad, etc, etc

In reality they have the backbone of a jellyfish, quick to limit and remove concessions, wont take a bean over the phone
Report Thelastfling August 9, 2014 11:15 AM BST
It's Paddy's decision whether or not they want to revert prices back in the morning but if they choose not to do so then as far as i'm concerned they should be taken out of the Pricewise table. We all know that won't happen as they'll be lining the RP's pocket but that's what should happen.
Report Swardean August 9, 2014 11:25 AM BST
Whether you like pricewise or not, you cannot argue the very fact that is exists provides significant publicity for racing.  Every media ahow always references the "pricewise horses".   The books are already protected by a maximum stake and betting window on these selections.   Yes, the market may have shifted but surely any exposure is balanced by the publicity.

I think it is shortsighted in the extreme by the bookmakers.
Report djembadjembahighvoltage August 9, 2014 11:27 AM BST
Strange move, pricewise not having a good year, 20 points down to advertised top prices. How often is each firm top price? 20-25% of the time. Strike rate around 10%.
Report GAZO August 9, 2014 11:29 AM BST
all the government has to do is ban machines in betting shops then they will have to become bookmakers again or fold, unfortunately the corrupt mp's who run the country would lose their backhanders so it will never happen
Report duncan idaho August 9, 2014 12:00 PM BST
the more bookies become answerable to shareholders, the more risk-averse they become...dont expect a return to old-style bookmaking anytime soon, fobts or no fobts
Report cardifffc August 9, 2014 12:03 PM BST
i hope they all go the same way as PP
Report Alkeyhole August 9, 2014 12:18 PM BST
I'd be surprised, the current system of offering pw odds for a few minutes at low limits probably doesn't cost them much for a ton of good publicity.  Pricewise makes punters think it's possible to beat bookies by mugging - that's worth it's weight in gold to them.
Report Big_Issue August 9, 2014 12:30 PM BST
I would say that the PW followers are what I would called proper ponces, all will support one of the top 4 footy teams too probably.
Report Homer Simpson August 9, 2014 12:38 PM BST
Betting.Betfair- great site for tips and arbs. Lot less hassle than using PW and having to run round betting shops. Barry's Bismark was good for trading but sadly CH4 don't do that kind of thing anymore.
Report Alkeyhole August 9, 2014 12:53 PM BST
You do get that most pricewise followers gnome bookies like crazy & therefore help themselves to decent arbs every week on pricewise, simply opening new accounts everytime they get limited/closed yeah?
Report ME THE MAN August 10, 2014 11:04 AM BST

At least this thread stimulated a response in yesterdays Rancid Post.

GAZO 09 Aug 14 11:29 Ban FOBT's etc - no need to go as far as that - just reverse the stake delimiting Gov't legislation and acknowledge that it was a huge mistake.
