I think it says a lot about the intelligence of the general population that this meeting often attracts such a huge crowd. I bet not one of them is a serious punter.
The overwhelming majority of people who go to any race meeting aren't "serious punters". |

it's not a race meeting for most of those folk.
it's a day out with a chance to be seen on TV which is now most folk's ultimate ambition. |
