I agree it's a horrible sentence but I believe it is correct. Grabbing the crown which belongs to Toronado I.e. "of Toronado"

Yes -- there is a tautology -- if Toronado holds the crown, he must have won last year -- so there is no point saying both -- @onlooker's headline is far better.

I went to private school, had a superb(very expensive)education, have an Honours Degree in English and can cofirm todays' RP front page headline is grammatically correct! Well worth the 2 English pounds and 10 pence.

Chonaic, you are indeed correct. At the risk of being pedantic, however, that is a punctuation error, rather than a grammatical one. It is a very widespread error, which I see frequently, even in the Daily Mail, and also the Telegraph,both of which I take.

I have never known anyone to take both the Telegraph and the Mail. MUst be a right wing zealot

It's a bit of an abbreviated sentence isn't it? commonly deployed for Rag-Headlines? Lacks a 'the' before Sussex crown. Still far prefer it to the Forest Chump one so ridiculously defended by Peter Thomas in his rancid post column.
