I didn't see what the issue was but I doubt it would be void,if stalls open early and horses get a start they dont void.Look at Kempton the other day there wasn't even a stewards when two stalls malfunctioned

Pathetic. talk about incompetence of the highest order, How can you balls up the start like that. Scrap the rest of the card imo, and sack the idiot flagman and starter.

Remember the guy at Aintree, this year, saying he had to get out of the way quickly, for the oncoming horses and it was a struggle. Cue laughs all round.
What!?
Have someone who has good eyesight and is fleet of foot
Why is the flagman always an aged bloke?Remember the guy at Aintree, this year, saying he had to get out of the way quickly, for the oncoming horses and it was a struggle. Cue laughs all round. What!?Have someone who has good eyesight and is fleet of
Agree wesdag. I've seen one horse nick 20l and they haven't stopped it... clearly favoring the fav backers the race so they stopped it. I bet they wouldn't of if the fav had fell.. bookies win again

The Stewards are probably desparately looking for some way to blame the jockeys!
The BHA needs to get of it's fat rrs and sort out this nonsense. Unbelievable that the man in the white coat isn't even looking at the
starter. Farcical British racing run by nincompoops.

What about the Owners who have had to pay the entry fee, the horse transport, the groom's overtime, and the jockey's fee? They won't be getting their money back, you can be sure of that.

Our system for jumps is a disgrace, I mean they let them go sometimes when one as nicked 10-20l on the rest, but pulling them back when they are in line but the tape as gone back a second too soon... disgrace, and they need sacking the lot of them.

Every owner should receive first palce prize money.
If not the whole racing fraternity shoul strike.
Of course I am dreaming. It's a forlorn hope that anyone will actually do anything about it.

Did not look anything wrong with it I think the starter had a pedantic attack...Angle that the tape went back was 1 degree out.. Can someone call a medic for acute pedance

Clearly the flag man at fault. He is supposed to respond immediately to a yellow flag by the starter and he didn't even look at the starter as far as I could see. Failing that, why didn't the starter alert the next person along the course There is someone at each fence to wave a flag if there is an injured horse or jockey. Total shambles.

We now have to worry about shambles like this it seems, utter disgrace the flag waving clown and the idiotic starter. the tape didn't snap right, put us to sleep ffs.

Id guess there were a few jockeys shouting "NO" as they got squeezed out at the start and the starter reacted to that. Starter waves flag...............flagman is daydreaming and misses false start.
Flagman to blame imho

The other daft aspect of this was the position of the start relative to the fence which caused them to come in at an angle. They should have lined up immediately behind the fence as they always used to.

Should racecourses be giving pensioners a tenner to be a flagman for the day? It may be a very simple job, but this guy clearly wasn't up to it.
If the BHA had any decency, they would divvy up the total prize money between all the owners. But I don't expect that to happen.

The flagman has one job and one job only to do. He doesn't have to make difficult or split second decisions.
The only thing he has to do is look at the starter furiously waving a yellow flag and wave his yellow flag.
That's it. Job done. He can go back to his flask of tea and sandwiches.

Shambles to say the least. One Conemara backers will be the angriest I presume. However, many players will also be happy at the abandonment. Owners/trainers, etc are the ones who could **** out.

What about the sponsor who puts up a lot of the prize money and gets no presentation etc ... all costs should be re-imbursed by The BHA and the prize money dished out evenly. The flag guy should of course be sacked immediately.

Its not a hard job is it to be a flag man ffs, just watch the start, glance at the starter to make sure nothings happened.. easy enough, but the fu cking idiots cant even do that in this day and age.

What about the time I went into the stewards room and ask how come the race was not void when one of the two sets of stall failed to open
They did open a few seconds after the first set
The race was a five furlong at Bath
I was told they had no rule to void the race
Only the started could do that
Did they ask the starter to void it ? no
50/1 chance won the race and from which stall ? yes you got it the stall that opened first.
Only person who spoke up was Mick Channon when I was in there

After the race, the stewards held an enquiry into the start and asked the flagman why he didn't wave his flag.
'Oh,I wondered what that was for' he replied.

What I cannot understand is why after a circuit, they did not let the race run it's course then hold a stewards. Result stands, weighed in.
Starter and Flagman wrists slapped. Or is that too much common sense?

In fairness to the flag man, if I was stood in front of a fence with a field of horses soon to be charging at me on such a short run to the first fence, I think I might have my eyes and concentration more on the horses than the starter.
Also I'm wondering due to both the fist fence being so close to the starting line and the height of the jockeys on horseback in a clustered field at the start, whether the flagman could see over them to notice the starter's flag, although he clearly didn't look back at the starter after he had moved away from the first fence.
It looked to me as if the horse furthest to the right as we look at it wasn't quite on the course itself so the starter was then being fussy after having initially let them go or maybe he didn't mean to release the tape when he did and so was calling them back, but still seems fussy either way.

Ok it may be the flagman's initial mistake but there have to be questions about why it took so long to stop them and why they were stopped - no jocks seemed bothered at any point in the race. The shot of them coming round to the start again and the starters empty chair is telling - i've a feeling it will be the oap of a flagman that will get it and not the oap of a starter or any of his 'officials'!
