On Friday 21st March we experienced a technical issue with our payments platform processing deposits from customers. While we were attempting to reconcile these issues with the banks we took the precaution of suspending withdrawals over the weekend. Following resolution of the problem we re-enabled withdrawals for over 99.5 % of customers yesterday afternoon. We have a very small number of accounts which are still impacted and reconciliation work is on-going.  We are working to restore normal service on these accounts as soon as possible.

I would like to personally apologise for the lack of communications on this subject over the weekend. I would also like to reiterate that all customer funds are held in a trust fund independent of Betfair so we can assure you that your funds are safe.  I can confirm that no customers will be impacted financially as a result of the technical issue that occurred.

A very quick response to the whole issue.
Report The Kitten March 25, 2014 12:17 PM GMT
Dear Sirs,

You suspended my account and when I enquired why you told me that you were having deposit problems where funds were not leaving my bank and being received by you. In order to unsuspend my account I had to authorise you to debit my account balance with you by £1000 with the assurance that the £1000 was in fact still with my bank.

The money (in 4 amounts) HAS left my bank.

I therefore require you to recredit my account with the £1000 you have stolen from it.

If this is not done by 5pm today my solicitors will be instructed.

Apart from me who was expecting to have my funds that I withdrew last week in my bank by now and not reversed to my Betfair account without my knowledge.

I now don't have enough to cover a Direct Debit that came out and will face a charge by my bank.

Elise,  if you withdraw YOUR money , you expect it to be paid to you.  If I had known there was going to be an issue I could have left more money in my account but as I KNEW (LOL) I had money coming in I didn't feel it necessary.  Surely there is a law about them rejecting your withdrawal with no good reason apart from the fact they made a right balls up.

The worst thing is they didn't TELL ANYONE what was going on

It's a long odds-on shot that there will be many more customers like MM that've been screwed like he has with standing orders going unpaid so who's gonna pick up those tabs Mr.Chuter?

I had the funds you imbecile.  Because I had money coming back from Betfair in time to cover them I decided to have a good weekend where I spent loads.

Now that has obviously turned out to be a poor choice,  and to be honest the £10 charge I'll get is just a annoyance rather than a problem.

It is still incompetence on Betfair's behalf.

This is a gambling site however and unsurprisingly there will be compulsive gamblers on here who may well have struggled due to Betfairs incompetence.

They could be left overdrawn because they have spent what WAS in their bank account knowing that Betfair was transferring money that is THEIRS to replace what was in there. Some people only have a certain amount in an account to budget and rest maybe all in savings/ISAs etc. Not everyone who has a potless bank account is putting 'essential funds' into their Betfair accounts I doubt.

That's not the issue and it's not a defence Betfair could possibly use.
The point is that regardless of whoever's fault it is, the corporates withholding punters' money (for various reasons) always profit from it and the man in the street gets goosed again!

The next day my bank showed them as processed, and 4 days later I still have not received my £500 back, although I have had 2 unfulfilled promises of returned phone calls.   Third time Lucky

I happen to keep nearly £20k in my current account all the time as it pays 3% up to that amount which is more than you get off any instant access savings account I can find. As I don't normally have more than £2k at most in Betfair I don't have a problem. But if my current account paid little or nothing I might well keep as little as possible in it so I COULD have been in the same situation as MM as I would have to transfer funds from my savings account which might well take too much time to meet DDs. If I had had an apparently successful withdrawal from Betfair on Fri I would have assumed it was going to hit my account probably today. I didn't know there was a problem till yesterday.
I suppose the lesson is NOT to rely on Bf being reliable which tbf they have been to my knowledge with payments until now.

Is that the Santander 123? If so customers must pay a monthly fee of £2. They also have to commit to paying at least £500 a month into the account and set up at least two direct debits.

Still waiting for a bank statement which is due but I doubt it will be up-to-date enough to cover Thurs which will be the dodgy deposit. So I may not get anywhere for a month or more. What annoys me is my deposit was £200 on top of about £600 I already had in. Made a bit in the US eventually on Thurs night and only tried to withdraw £100 so even if my deposit hadn't gone through, and I THINK it did judging by my balance,I would have had easily enough to cover the withdrawal.
Not putting any more in till it's sorted . If I go on winning it will be business as normal but if I have the sort of sizeable loss I am prone to I will have to cease operations.
