Great build pre-race but I was not satisfied with the outcome for a number of reasons:

The New One clearly the best horse in the race and he did not win.

We don't know how Our Conor would have performed had he stayed on his feet.

The loss of Our Conor just added to the anti-climatic feeling post race.

My Tent or Yours jumped poorly and I think McCoy made a mess of the bend, switching him out then back in again.

It's the first race I've looked forward to and been unhappy with how the race developed.

By the way I wouldn't begrudge Jezki who is a deserving winner too.

Our conor could have won by twenty lengths. We'll never know.

I'm not 100% sure The New one would have won. No one can say for sure.

Like most things the hype didn't justify the event.

Just because things didn't go as many had hoped or anticipated does not constitute it being a letdown, just confirms that opinions are usually proved to be wrong cometh the day for everyone bar those who felt the winner on this day would be Jezki.
Anyone who does not believe todays race was a great spectacle must be setting their bar of expectation too high.

You won't see a better ride all week. Not often you can say that after a Champion Hurdle.

I make of that the ground was clearly riding faster than normal. As at least 1 maybe more course records were broken this could confirm it.

they moved the goal posts or did you not watch the racing , timing the race from when they break the start line instead of when the flag went down changes everything
By:

When: 11 Mar 14 19:46
That would explain it then, combined with faster ground than normal.

Jezki not better than istabraq imo

I backed My Tent or  Yours big ante-post and I was disappointed. This was added to later on by Suntiep but objectively, although the race was very exciting, I can see why one could see it as disappointing.

McCoy once again couldn't get My Tent or Yours to settle, will we ever know how good he could be if he learned how to race?

We lost one of the most exciting young horses in training in Our Conor.

In losing Our Conor, the chances of another potential superstar in The New One were seriously compromised. He lost more than the distance he was beaten by after all.

What we have learned is that Jezki is a fine horse and has been the victim of poor rides in all of his recent races except topday and back at the Punchestown festival.

McCoy has butchered his chance twice and got away with it in the Hattons Grace. Robbie Power ploughed him through the last in the Supreme.

I don't like McCoy on top horses, there have been too many incidents through the years. He lacks finesse and when he tries it, we get results like the Irish Champion where he was outridden by that racing luminary Danny Mullins.

Mccoy had a mare on MTOY today. He got the horse beat and you could tell he knew muttering under hsi breath when they crossed the line. Just have faith in the horses ridiculous cruising speed, Id rather him empty out after the last with others gaining rather than him waste energy pulling his head off then trying to go past horses infront, Im quite certain he could of won a supreme and a chmapion hurdle if he'd just bloody kick on before the 2nd last and kill the race off early. Frustrated is not the word.

If you don't like him on top horses why did u back him.

Because I thought he would at last get it right on him on the day that counts. I thought it was the one thing that a great trainer like Henderson was working on. I also had massive belief in the horse, still do and had him at 10's ante-post. I see horses running free under him every day of the week. it is a weakness in what is an otherwise formi9dable armoury. But it is the one thing you can't afford to do in Grade 1 races.

what we did learn was that hurricane will never win the champion again, neither will jetzti.
Ifeel the new one would have won with an uninterupted passage, but even allowing for allthis next years winner and possibly todays winner had he been allowed to take his chance is UN DE SEUX an absolute machine .
Watch this space and believe.

this frustrates the fck out of me. we all have our crosses to bear. as for mtoy - I'm sure AP knows how to ride him better than we do.

Take up knitting Neill as horse race reading is not your strongpoint.

Same as last year for MTOY in that McCoy couldnt get it to settle and then got outridden by a top jockey.

That to be fair was an overstatement as I'm a bit upset!! But he cannot settle this particular horse and has had enough tries now.

It will never happen, but I'd love to see someone else on him.

Neill,
Henderson stated after the race,"I wish I could get a magic potion to make it settle".

Perhaps some on here could write directly to AP and give him their expert advice. I'm sure that a 19 time Champion jockey would be very receptive to the opinions of those who have probably never sat on a horse, let alone been involved in a single race.

Yes, maybe, probably. I'm just gutted!! Rereading I have probably overstated his case. It is just that natural talent oozes out of him and I'm a sucker for that. i never even traded out such was my faith in him, even when I didn't like what I saw unfolding.

When: 11 Mar 14 20:49
Neill's point would be that McCoy has had enough goes on the horse and he only seems to generate the same response every time. Were he not under contract, I would agree it would make perfect sense to try something different. A horse like this would be suited to someone like Carberry !

When: 11 Mar 14 20:50
First it was a gret ride by Geraghty, and Jezki was possibly overlooked because of the other four, but I feel the race has thrown up more questions than answers, and on Champion Hurdle day you want to see a real worthy champion with everything fitting into place. The fall and interference robbed us of an unfolding satisfying end. The Jezki connections may not get all the adulation that they should.

I certainly would not rule out Jezki winning it again though

Moneytree,
It is clear that you have never ridden a racehorse.
By:

When: 11 Mar 14 21:51
Money tree is right, instead of holding on like an idiot just let him tank his way into the lead, just like bg does with sprinter sacre, why hold on when he could of already had the race won before the last. I truly believe mtoy is that good he could use his speed to kill a race off that soon. His pace was freightening today he pulled so hard off such a strong pace, stop holding the horse back ap let him show us his true potential. Mccoy keeps gdtting this horse beat and hes well and truly pissing me off in the process

It was a poor ride and McCoy knows it. Biggest mistake was at the last, presented the horse all wrong, needed a fast fluent jump, presented the horse wrong, cost him the win , no question at all about that.

Im sure in coming weeks mccoy will admit it was a bad ride and he made mistakes.

And before anyone says i have never ridden a horse...:...i have actually, rode a horse when i was 12 on holiday in wales, did trotting and cantering.
By:
TEABAGHDAD
When: 11 Mar 14 22:10
I guarantee mccoy will admit he made mistakes here.

Mccoy is mccoys biggest critic.

Anyone saying mccoy didnt give it a bad ride will be shown up when mccoy publically admits he did.
